Probe for EGT on downpipe...

My cars downpipe was tapped for an EGT gauge when I bought it with a Greddy gauge but the gauge crapped out. Now I want to get a Prosport EGT gauge and use the same tap, I doubt it will be that same but I was wondering if there is some kind of adapter I can get to make it work in the same hole. Thanks

Out of curiosity, why isn't it in the exhaust runner for cyl 1 or 2? Why do you want to know the temp post-turbo?

The standard location is in the runner from the cyl that is furthest along the fuel rail (and, therefore, most likely to run lean first). The exception is when a different cyl is known to run hottest (e.g., cyl 2 usually runs hottest on a 4g63; no idea about 4b11, but you have a 4g63, right?). You want the probe about 6" from the exhaust port, so maybe 4" or 5" down the runner. After the turbo can be highly misleading due to the drop in energy as the pressure drops. In more ways than one, post turbo is too late to save you. My guess is that the extra bung in the downpipe was meant for a wideband.

As said by others, after the turbo is way too far for an EGT probe. Mine is a couple inches down the exhaust runner (#2 cyl. if I'm not mistaken).

It's not as important as a wideband but it can be handy if you want to tune leaner while making sure your EGT's are in check. (running leaner during cruise for example). Since I have it I also want to gather some data of running 11 AFR vs 11.5, etc, and seeing what the difference in EGT really is.

Sorry for the Resurrection of this thread, but did you end up getting the Prosport EGT and did you install it on #1 or #2?
