Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
STI blowing the EVO away is a bit of an exaggeration.
Sure the STI is a bit more powerful, but it really is a drivers race. I have driven both. Matter of fact this past weekend at imports vs. domestics the EVO's were faster. It really boils down to your preference. With very few mods the EVO will put down better #'s than the STI. Where as the STI seems to be knock prone and difficult to mod.
BTW.. why does your info. have STI RA Spec C when you say you have an EVO your happy with...

i agree with you blonde... i love the way the Evo drives and it's a damn fast car. the STI is faster in a straight line but I don't street race and I haven't been to the drag strip either, so the small advantage the STI has in straight line performance is irrelavent to me... i bought the Evo because i love the handling and it makes me smile everytime i take a tight turn and to me, that is more important.
There is always going to be a faster car out there. In reality, these cars are so close in acceleration on the street that whoever gets the rpms and shifts right will win. Remember the STi has that one extra gear, so most average folks will be futzing with gears a lot.
People that have a superiority complex that one car is better than the other here just need to get a life, let's just appreciate both the Evo and the STi as incredible bargains in speed per dollar and incredible cars all around!

So is that how everyone is dealing with this? Just accept it? Well, if STI is faster then why get the EVO in the first place?
This is exactly why I am troubled by those who own an STI. Most who own an STI always say that they fell in love after they test drove the STI and this is after having already test-driven an EVO prior. They always say that all it takes to sway their minds is an test drive behind the wheel of an STI, which unforturnately isn't an option here in SoCal.

Get a Life
You act like you are afraid to make a decision!!! You have heard people say that after they drive an STI that sold them even though they had driven the EVO. So What!!!!! I have a ton of people say just the opposite. Whichever car you buy will have some issues that the other one does not have. According to most of the reviews, the STI rides slightly better and has more straightline power box stock. The EVO can be brought up to 320-350 horsepower for less than $3000 which makes it still about the same price as the stock STI. The STI cannot be modded easily or cheaply. The turbo is too small for the size of the engine. Putting individual likes and dislikes aside as far as looks go, buy the STI, if you don't want to add any mods and like a better ride. Buy the EVO if you want the best handling car that can be easily modded. You really can't go wrong with either car

You worry too much about what other people think. Find someone who has each car and spend a little time with them. Then buy what YOU like. As so many people have said, each has its strong points.
Or, you may want to wait until Mitsu brings in the FQ300 or even the FQ330...but then you'll probably be spending as much or more than what you'd spend for an STi.
The performance differences between the stock STi and Evo 8 are minimal. As someone said, it's more to do with the driver's skill than anything else, and besides, how much are you REALLY gonna' be "racing" anyway? If you were serious about racing, you'd probably be looking to mod whichever car you get anyway.
I don't know about the STi, because those weren't available locally before we bought our Evo. But I CAN tell you that my wife drove both the Evo and a ProDrive WRX before we settled on the Evo. She hated the shift action in the WRX, and said it felt like a "secretary's car" compared to the Evo. But of course, the WRX is no STi.....hehhehheh

Only a kid who goes by magazine times and numbers would pick the STi over an Evo.
I have enough to buy either car, and I am going to choose the Evo.
A true enthusiast would pick the Evo. If you really care about "beating" a STi go buy a Camaro.
the STI is nice. So nice, i bought an Evolution. I was about to get an STI for DEALER COST because i have a friend that works for Subaru. Long story short, Love my EVO. You need assurance, take a corner. You need assurance, go spend $300 in mods. You need assurance, buy an EVO.
I rode in a STI and EVO ,hands down EVO . Thats why i have one
STI may have more torque and a little more hp than a EVO but that can be very easily fixed. And the EVO in the corners ,is why i bought mine + the 2000 dollars less than the sti at the time i purchased mine.Right now I going with buschar turbo back 3in (bought used 550), S-afc 320 , HKS RS 270, Greddy EBC 300 = 1400
and you better believe it will take a STI from roll , stop , sideways, and corners. I am very happy. Also i was a previous WRX owner with stage 2.5 Turbo XS. And insurance was cheaper for me to buy the EVO than the STI. But you are on an EVO forum so ppl will be biased toward the EVO.

Just look at the rally STi and street STi. Look how bulky and tall the street car looks compared to the rally car. That is one huge turn off for me. To me Evo looks much better + the fact that you need to spend money on STi to fix the suspension due to the heavier front to get it near *stock* Evo is nonsense. $2000 on Evo (still below base STi) and you're riding a faster car.
I really like the looks of the rally STi but spending mod-cash in getting those fenders and skirts makes absolutely no sense.
If I was into drag racing I'd probably go with a Mustang Cobra or something similar (SRT-4?
) ... it's not why you get the Evo for.

broken sti
Driving home from work on thrusday i saw and STI sittin in a ditch with its front right wheel and suspension pulled under the car. the person driving said that he pulled out of a side street and was on the gass really good and when he let off the gass the front left end gave out and buckled under the car!!!! I died,, it was too good. told the kid he should have gotten an evo!
I was very interested in the STi, I had a WRX and was all pumped up about the STi...... When the EVO was about to come out, all my enthusiast friends said that the EVO was the car to have, because it was "the real thing" (whatever that was). Anyway, I wanted the STi so bad that I went and pestered the dealer several times. They finally came up with some outrageous bull**** non-refundable deposit agreeing to buy the STi at whatever price they asked for it !?!
Well, the EVO came in first
, I went to the dealer, saw it and fell in love with it.... I pestered them to buy it right away, but no dice... they gave me some kind of song and dance about the paperwork not being ready, etc. Anyway, 3 days later the car was available and I bought it on the spot! I just love the EVO, it's such a great car that you cannot believe it until you drive it. I never got to drive the STi, I saw them and they looked good. They have the extra HP and torque and a few other things, but I still think the EVO is the car to beat. I'm sure that $2K worth of easy mods will give it enough power to beat the STi in the straight line, and in the twisties there is no comparison.... EVO rules
