Finding an Evo for $28000 or less should not be a huge problem. I bought mine in late August and got it for less than that. Since you are in Atlanta you can try Rick Case (where I got mine), I think Team and Peachtree Mitsu were offering good prices. Augusta Mitsu also had good prices when I was doing my shopping. You basically have to go in knowing you can get it for $28000 or better and if they don’t offer that then you walk.

As far as your Lancer, you can try to sell it yourself and see if you can get your money out of it. I used autotrader.com and it worked well when I sold my Eclipse. You could try and take it to Carmax and see if they will take it for reasonable money. I’m assuming you got in on the "no interest, no payments" for a year deal? It seems like upside down loans and tough resale situations are a common result of those loans. You may have to take part of the money you had saved and use it against the negative equity you have in your Lancer. It is not the best sounding answer now, but it may work out the best financially in the end.

Best wishes,
f86sabre

Event-Horizon...PLEASE bro....Don't purchase this Evo...everyone before me has stated the absolute truth. I can most certainly understand the trade-in offer (which is HUGE, when buying another car)...stay with that dealer, BUT have them SHIP you a different evo...THAT can be done!

You're worried about haggling over $1k, when you're $8k upside down in your current car?

Since you owe $15k on a $7k car, I would take a step back an rethink this. You're already buried in debt. Why make it worse?

THE EVO IS A CAR THAT WILL MAKE GOING TO WORK IN THE MORNING FUN (ESPECIALLY CUTTIN OFF SLOW PEOPLE) AND GETTING ALL THE ATTENTION DURING THE DAY AND AT NIGHT. THE EVO IS A RARE CAR TO FIND ON THE ROAD AND WHEN PEOPLE SEE IT, ITS ALL EYES ON YOU! NO BMW MERCEDES OR AUDI THAT COSTS $30,00 WILL GET THAT TYPE OF ATTENTION!

Need help buying used evo

I want to buy an evo and found a for sale by owner. It is a 2003 black and has carbon fiber wings and sunroof. It has 7000 miles on it and he is the second owner. He bought it from his friend who could not make the payment. He will be leaving for the army and wants to sell it before he deploys. I have test driven the car and everything seems fine but I have no experience with an evo. I have brought used cars before. It is stock with no mods. The owner wants $27000. I don't know what to do? What should I offer him and what should I be looking for if I do decide to buy it. Should I just suck it up and buy new? I was just trying to save a few bucks but is it worth it? Any and all info would be appreciate. Car is located in Massachusetts. Thanks all.

i'd probably take a look at the boost lines from turbo to solinoid, and check the one located on the intake manifold which runs over the right side of the valve cover to make sure there hasn't been and aftermarket boost controllers installed. Take a look at the wiring harness located jsut below the glove compartment right below where it plugs into the ECU and make sure nothing has been tapped to it as well. Last i'd probably make him an offer of $25000 being it's had 2 owners already and tell him you can get one new no problem at msrp if not below that. Check tires for wear as they wear fast, check paint for chips, and the carfax out to make sure it's clean. See where it goes from there, if he wants $27,00 firm jsut buy a new one or wait until next years model comes out.

If I had to do it all over, I would get a STI.

They are both about the same, But you don't have the ****ty warranty. If you are planning to mod your car heavily Go STI. If it's just going to be a slightly modified EVO with exhaust/intake. You can sick with the EVO. Lot's of tranny issues from what I read.It seems there are more Subaru friendly dealerships.

I love my car and I will enjoy, But the warranty Issues bite hard.

well with 7000 miles 27000 seems like a lot. If your lucky you can get one for a few thousand more than 27000 and you get to beat the crap out of it yourself, its a great feeling knowing your the only one who has beat the **** out of the car

he also has a 12k deposit.
Check edmunds for how much your car is worth. It's better than KBB.
Edmunds price on 02 Lancer OZ.

Good luck. I'll ask 8k for the trade in. And yea 250 miles on a evo is alot. It's been beaten.

******* that is a lot to be upside down....I am really worried about resale on the Evo. I need to be able to sell the car to get out of it if the need arises....

Based on what you said:
$7000 for trade in (Owe 15,000)
-8000
down payment $12,000
+4000
Evolution $28,000
-$24,000
Monthly payment is $425 for 72 months.

YOU'RE PAYING 9% INTEREST!!!! ARE YOU INSANE?

if you got a apr of 4% the monthly payments would be $375 a month.

If you have $12K available for a down-payment, pay off your OZ Lancer first. Why keep paying interest on it?
