Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
If I was offered a full refund... i'd run away from mitsubishi as fast as I could. Honestly I love my Evo but so far its become a money pit for me i've spent almost $3k for a car thats only got a blow-off valve, filter and new exedy clutch. It handles great, its fun to drive, you get a lot of looks and yeah its faster then my old mustang. I'd get a 03 SVT Cobra instead if I had a full refund. I love the 03 Cobra's, I love the sound of a v8 and the smell of having no cats on it. I wish I could still spin tires through 3rd gear and chrip 'em in 4th, but oh well come christmas will see if my evo is still even in commission.
Maybe people who want the chirpy tire effect should go get some pep boy special tires. Maybe some 80,000 mile specials. That would help to bring back that spinning tire effect. Probably help to save the clutches.
It kind of reminds me of the folks new to Formula car racing who break half shafts trying to get out of the pits. Big Grippy Race Tires and small displacement means you must be careful young grasshopper with high rpm drops. something is gonna break. gotta learn the fine art of clutch modulation till your moving.

without a doubt, the EVO is all about driving!
Two weeks before buying min, I drove the "sport edition" Lexus IS300, as well as a 330 bimmer. Now that I have had the EVO for a couple of months, (and 12,000+ miles), all I can think when I pass a bimmer or IS on the road is, "whew! Am I glad I didn't choose THAT !"
Take it from someone who basically drives for a living, the EVO is worth every penny if you are looking for an affordable vehicle that is all about pure driving excitement.

Well it was too good to be true. They prepped the car, filled the tank up, and took me to the finance office. When I talked to the finance guy the monthly payment had inflated to $470 a month. I told him that it was too much and that I could not believe they were going to lose a deal over $50. He said "Oh, we are willing to accept that". I said "That’s all I needed to hear" and walked out.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I went back to the manager and was able to get them to come down on the price, but the "best" they could do was $443. The sales person said, "That’s just a coke and a snack". I said call me when you're ready to deal and left.
I think after all this I'm going to hold off on the car buying thing. It has just been one big headache. Why does it seem that every dealership just wants to play games with me about the Evolution. They seem to think they can wait months at a time and someone is just going to come by and give them full price. You would think that they would want to get rid of an EVO that has sat on the lot for five months.
I may stop by the credit union my university is affiliated with and see if they can offer me a better rate. They also offer a car buying service, maybe they can get it cheaper.

Personally, I'd stay clear of an Evo with 250 'demonstrator' miles on it. If you figure each test drive is around 5 miles, that's 50 different drivers! I was so particular about getting a car with just delivery miles (7 in my case) that it was one of the first questions I asked.
While I test drove an Evo with 100+ miles on it, and didn't go over 5K, I'm sure other drivers (or dealer staff) have not been as kind during the break-in period!

Was this at rick case? I will NEVER do business with them, in fact I bought a silver evo with roof and wing drove it for 200 miles and returned it for all my money back because of fraud that they did on my trade in.

yeah, I never believed for one secound that it wasnt abused. I guess this worked out for the best in the end.
Are there any pointers you can give me to get a NEW one for $28k or less?

1st - it's good that you quit the idea of buying a 250miles Evo.
2nd - it's never about monthly payment. It's always about how much you pay extra in the end.
That said, I would consider paying off your Lancer first to stop additional interest and rather putting less down on the Evo afterwards. Look for better APR! It's all about APR, especially if you're looking into long-term financing (72months).
Hope your reason defeats your desire, I know it's hard
Was it silver? If so I bet it was the car that I had. Also once I found out he was going to do fraud on my I beat the car HARD and let me wife drive it who does not know how to drive a stick. Don't ***** they were about to get sued and I was pissed. Almost cost me 15k

Hey guys I'm curious about something. I hear countless people say how good the evo is etc etc. and how it's the best car you've ever driven.
Well question is, what kinda car are you comparing with the EVO? A civic? A camry? A supra? An RX7?
Power wise it could be VERY impressive to those that has previously owned a civic, as well as handling, but for those that might've had a faster car a stock evo may not be that impressive.
A good example is when my friend and I went to a nissan dealership, he drives an integra gs and I drive a GST. We both went on seperate test drives with the 350z, and he was in love with the car, thinks it's SO fast and handles SO well. My impressions were....different. I thought WOT acceleration wise it's not much faster than my car, and handling wise is identical to my car also. Needless to say I was disappointed.
I'm seriously contemplating whether it's worth spending 30K on an evo rather than sticking with my car and not be in debt. Ok so....what exactly are you guys comparing to the evo?
