Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
I feel bad for the people who paid $10k over MSRP(and there are several more who choose not to say). They have the guinea pig cars for the dealers.
I paid $2k over MSRP and I thought I got hosed. I know the feeling of not being able to wait.
STI's are still being marked up in CAli by $5k--but they have the luxury of being 2004 models so they have time to move them.

Considering the Evo
Hey all, new here and just thought I'd ask a couple questions. First I'll start off by saying that I've always had my eye on getting the M3, but only recently began thinking about other choices such as the Evo or the WRX. Now I know that the M3 is a slightly different class, but I've always been all over the board when looking at new cars. Last car was a choice between the Trans Am stock or getting a new Celica and dressing it up. In any case I was wondering how the Evo stacks up against the WRX...from what little I've checked so far it appears a bit faster. The WRX though has a slightly bigger engine and 6 speed vs 5 on the Evo. Now if all 3 cars were the same price, I would probably go with the M3...sacrificing some performance for the 'luxury'. But since the tag is 20k different, then I'm seriously considering the Evo or WRX STi.
I took the Evo out for a spin and it was definately a jumpy little car. I like everything except for a few things. One being the boxy look. I'm not sure how much can be done about the back end though. The other thing is that it's pretty empty on the inside (as expected). So there's some customizing to be done. What would be your suggestions for a new owner to get...cosmetic or performance? So far if I went with the car I would most likely get a Boost Temp gauge, shift light, Boost Gauge...Also is it recommended to stay with the stock turbo or to go a bit more powerful? I have tons of questions but will ask slowly
Any info would be great...THANKS!

BTW you def want a boost gauge, that should be your very first performance oriented mod in my opinion. As far as other gauges, most people have EGT, oil pressure, and fuel pressure. Those seem to be the most popular.

BUT i was wondering if anybody took the extended warrenty they were selling??
the guy started talking about the brain and electrical not being covered but the thing cost 1600 bones and i just laughed.
I guess I will be seeing some of you at the Socal Evo meet on sunday. Later.

hey guys...
seriously... it seems that like... ok, ppl get a new lancer, they come here first and say "I GOT MINE!!!" lol, it feels like @ the dealer they say "well, congratulations on buying your brand new lancer, now go home, go online, and sign up to evolutionm.net" lol
it'd be pretty funny if dealers start giving ya the handbook along with an evom.net sticker and puts ya on yer merry way lol...
but nah, good buy bro, welcome to the lancer family... may your driving be skillful, and your ride get you laid plenty

congrats on the car, and welcome to the boards.
With regards to the extended warranty: If you are modding your car at all, I would skip it... If not, then you might want to look into it, but make sure you read the fine print. Many 3rd party extended warranties don't cover all the things that you think they would. eg. I bought an extended warranty on my fd when I got it in 2000. It was pretty much a waste though as it didn't cover the turbos or failure caused by said turbos. 99% of the failures associated with fds are blown seals which often destroy the turbos. The best case senario was the aftermarket warranty company paying for a new engine... and that was tough, as many claims have been denited on fds for lots of silly reasons. (like T78 single turbos
)
