You did well. Any purchase you make has to be on your terms. You have to live with the car and make the payments. No car, not even the Evo, is worth putting yourself in a bad position financially. You will be able to get a car for $28000 or less. Several of us on the board have. Just shop around and maybe give the your credit union car shoppers a chance.

Best wishes,

They seem to think they can wait months at a time and someone is just going to come by and give them full price. You would think that they would want to get rid of an EVO that has sat on the lot for five months.
Has nothing to do with the Evo. What you describe is part of the car buying experience no matter what you try to buy. Welcome to the real world.

It was probably a good thing that you didn't get the evo in your situation. I got a great deal on my Evo at Team Mitsu in Roswell. They have 2 yellows and red both with some miles on them that I would stay away from. I had them get me a silver one from a Macon dealership with less then 20 miles on it.

It took me 3 hours worth of negotiating but I got my car for less than sticker and got more than I expected for a trade-in on my old car so I'm happy.

Search around this forum, I don't think anyone sold their EVO's for more than $25K with the exception of a few modded ($10K) EVO's. Remember, this is the first year of EVO's in the US. So anyone who's selling used this soon is probably in a financial bind. Unless you can get a clean low mileage EVO for less than $24K, I'd say jump to a brand new EVO.

Hey guys I'm curious about something. I hear countless people say how good the evo is etc etc. and how it's the best car you've ever driven.

Well question is, what kinda car are you comparing with the EVO? A civic? A camry? A supra? An RX7?

Power wise it could be VERY impressive to those that has previously owned a civic, as well as handling, but for those that might've had a faster car a stock evo may not be that impressive.

A good example is when my friend and I went to a nissan dealership, he drives an integra gs and I drive a GST. We both went on seperate test drives with the 350z, and he was in love with the car, thinks it's SO fast and handles SO well. My impressions were....different. I thought WOT acceleration wise it's not much faster than my car, and handling wise is identical to my car also. Needless to say I was disappointed.

I'm seriously contemplating whether it's worth spending 30K on an evo rather than sticking with my car and not be in debt. Ok so....what exactly are you guys comparing to the evo?
I'm comparing mine to a '96 Impala SS, a mid-12 second '95 Z28, an '92 Corvette, and an '01 SVT Cobra.

It edges them all in handling (The 'Vette by a little bit BUT it does feel much more confident in the turns).

It pulls stronger than all of them to 60 for obvious traction-enhanced reasons.

It does lack the power from a pull that the Cobra and Z28 had (They both were trapping around 108-109 when I sold them).

I just offered this person 24k for the car. He told me that I was lowballing him. I told him to think about it and get back to me. He also did not believe me that I can buy one for msrp. I directed him to this forums. Will keep everyone updated. Thanks for all the reply.

i got my evo a month ago for 28.9 with 40 miles on the car. maybe if there were only 700 miles on the car then he could sell it for 27. just get a new one for msrp because this guy is marking the car up way too much.

If he can't go down to $24k, then he could always sell back to the dealer for more $$ . There's always a used EVO which pops up around here every week. So it's not like you can't find another deal.

lol im a dealer ( i know.... BOOOOOOO a dealer) but all everyone does is ***** about how a deal someone is getting is bs. The guys deal that this thread is about is a fair deal. The reason why i am so opinionated is i have NEVER heard anyone tell another person that they are getting a fair deal..... it immediately goes to " I got a new one for $12,000 plus a boost conroller and..... BLAH BLAH BLAH

Evo's offer great performance for the dollar. But there probably isn't a worse car out there for resale value. These will drop like a rock because buyers will assume they've been abused. Buy one for $29K and drive it around for a few months and expect to get $27 for it? No way. Even at $23 I'd be saying to myself that it might be worth spending another $5000 to get one that I can break in myself.
