Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
well if i were to get the 330, id go for the renn-sport.net techik stage 3 na kit, which produces 280hp to the wheels. www.atpturbo.com offers a very sweet turbo kit. dinan is way over priced, so is ac-schnitzers sc, and hamann doesnt even have any fi kits for the e46. AHHHHHHhh well see. im about to burst into tears i dont kno what to do. luckily theres a meet in the philly area on the 5th of july, hopefully ill get to see what the evo can really do.
Btw, here's a couple earlier posts about the same topic. Jedinite got a race prep E36 M3 and now a Evo 8...
initial impression
1500 mile impression
Btw, a comment on harsh ride. I had Bilstein sport shock, H&R race springs, and AC sway bars f/r on my E36 and I still think the Evo ride a bit harder than the E36 with all these goodies. Just to give you an idea.

Thanks for the link r6, saved me the trouble.
I'll post more on this subject later, but I've owned a 2000 e46 328i, a 2001 e46 M3, and currently own a race-prepared 1995 e36 M3 in addition to my Evo-VIII.
The evo is hands down the best car purchase I've ever made. 'nuff said.
In the meantime, check out my evo site for some articles which will further sway you to the dark side...

I too joined the fray of BMW deserters. I had a 2000 M5 and while it was an amazing car, I love my Evo and really have no regrets. You have to decide on your true priorities. Ask yourself, do I want a sporty luxury car or an all out sports car? If the latter, what are you willing to give up for it? You will give up not only the luxury but also build quality, prestige, and the admiration of your non-car enthusiast friends ("you bought a Lancer?!?). If, when you drive it, you find yourself saying, "So what?", then this is the car for you. What you gain is a no holds barred, ***** to the wall rally car that will put a smile on your face every time you drive it. There is no shame in admitting that you want a cushier car. Be honest to yourself because you are the one who has to live with the decision.
For me, with the warranty running out on the M5, it was a no brainer. While I could throw the BMW around in the twisties, I always felt guilty doing it and somehow, I could always feel the 4000 lbs I was lugging around. The Evo literally dances and darts, too and fro and while it's painful to drive in a straight line for any length of time, when that off ramp comes, you will find your foot firmly planted on the gas instead of the brakes, thinking "that's why I bought this car". Enjoy the decision making process, shopping is sometimes the best part!
BTW, Cherry Hill Triplex in Cherry Hill has like 5 or 6 in stock and they let me test drive the Evo not once but twice. Ask for Rob Tiedeken, tell him the M5 guy referred you and I'm sure he'll let you drive one. Don't get scared off by their stupid $10,000 markup. I paid MSRP and you might get lower now, who knows.

Take it. Some are getting 2G's below but how many dealers are doing that? Just take it and consider yourself lucky that you got it for MSRP. Money does run away from you pretty quick...
EDIT: Try to at least curb them down below MSRP. If not just take it at MSRP.

Since you have the money at hand to buy, now is the perfect time to make a deal! It's very unlikely they would want you to leave on the account of a few hundred dollars..200-500 dollars. Try to get it for 300-500 below MSRP.
Timing is everything!!! Go to the dealership right before there closing time on a saturday afternoon, and make a really low offer to the sales manager, you have the advantange considering your paying cash, and they dont have to deal with getting you a loan. You can probably squeeze the most money out of them that way.
I bought my yellow evo a week ago in PA and I did the saturday evening trick. It worked I got the car for 1,200 under msrp, and I still needed a loan. Make low offers and so on until you get them to a point where they say, "thats as low as I can go if you can't take that then there is nothing we can do." Then leave, if they let you leave then thats the lowest they are willing to go period. I spent 5 hours at the dealer.
