Never bought into buying by peer pressure myself... guess I am missing the lemming gene.

Research them both, test drive them both, make up your own mind. You are the one who will have to live with it and make the payments.

I checked insurance on myself for an EVO and a Cobra Coupe. I am 27 and single with no at fault accidents or speeding tickets and I use State Farm and the Cobra was $300 more per year.
I don't know how the fuel consumption is with the Cobra, but they have much taller gears and they turn very slowly at highway speeds. The old Mustang GT would get equivalent mileage or better than I get with my car. I can tell you for sure that the EVO is not a mileage champ

I'm 57 and I'm not Mr. clean , I dont know how much they'd charge me for ins. on a 'Stang, but they charge the hell out of me for 2 cars ('03 Max SE & '03 EVO). I seriously doubt that my insurance will go much higher if any with the Cobra.....

Well for me winter cam into play. We have snow at least three months out of the year. The Cobra is worthless in the snow. With the right tires the EVO is great in the snow.

More and more care are making big horsepower numbers. The trouble is putting it to the pavement. All-wheel-drive puts it to the pavement. These are really pretty different cars so not knowing you its really hard to say.

I need all-wheel and I like how it drives, dry, rain or snow. I think it's a performance advantage and a safety advantage.

I've raced Mustangs and I had one of the first Cobra SVT endurance chassis (until Jason Preistly bought it and totaled it) and it's a great race car. And in the right climate it can be a fun street car..but for me it feels big, the interior feels cheap, the shifter feels awful clunky and it just wasn't fun to drive OR easy to drive fast.

It may be faster than an EVO in a straight line but I know once I was strapped in I'd be working a hell of a lot hard to make a Cobra fast than an EVO. The EVO is fun to drive and easy to drive fast, therefor a safer car in my mind AND I can drive it in witer in the snow.

If they made an all-wheel Cobra I woudl have still bought the EVO.

You decide...this is obviously an EVO-biased group but I will say many of us debated other cars too so our opinions are pretty solid...well at least most of us.

Cobra is a tank retrofitted with independant rear suspension, the handling is like green jello in an earthquake, there's still a ton of body roll, like jelly roll, if I wanna be like Lil Richard and do the twist, I'd buy a Cobra, if I wanted rail like cornering I'd get an EVO... of course, I chose the EVO.

Come on now thats not true, the cobras handling is GREAT just NOTHING compared to a EVO.
Compare the 03 cobra to a camaro or even a vette non z06 and the cobra will handle far superior to them.
put some different subframe connectors on and a few MM suspension upgrades and your done.

BTW just some info, 03 cobra with exhaust a smaller pulley and a dyno tune and the car w/ good driver is capable of running mid to low 11s all for less then 1g.

lol, I was in the Mustang scene for the past 2 years. My '02 supercharged GT was spanking new Cobra's. If you honestly believe your going to get full exhaust (headers back including X or H pipe) for 1g, you're crazy. If you think your insurance is going to be cheaper, or your gas mileage better, or your winter roadholding ability better, your crazy. Now factor in the cost of a real dyno tune (I had my GT dynotuned 4 times by FordChips.com in Michigan at $200 / hour) and the cost is exponentially higher than "1g".

Not only that, but MOST people launching a new Cobra are inept at getting off the line smoothly with a roots-type blown car making all it's torque down low. Bolt on a set of slicks, and your half-shafts will hate you.

I'm not bashing the Cobra, it's good for what it is - these are just two entirely different cars that have different purposes.

Drive safe.

You'll always be hindered by the '79 Fairmont chassis of the Cobra. It'll never have the feel of the 'Vette. The F-Body twins suffer from the same problems inherent in an outdated chassis.

Trust me. My last three cars were a '92 C4 Vette, '95 Z28 (Cammed and stalled, ran mid-12s on drag radials), and an '01 Cobra.

I'd say that the Evo is by far the best handling car of any of them
(Followed by the 'Vette).

Don't get me wrong, the '03 Cobra is an absolute terror stock or with minor bolt-ons but they tend to feel very heavy and the understeer makes me feel like I'm driving a Taurus.

...I'm just throwing in my 2 cents.

these cars are in 2 different worlds bro. i think that posting in each forum for each car is a no-brainer. the mustang forum will say mustang, and the mitsubishi forum will say EVO. how many guys can say, in the mustang forum, that theyve ever owned an EVO? prolly not a whole lot, kus they just came out. but over here on the mistusbishi forum a bunch of guys use to have, or still have mustangs, and now drive evos. the other forum is just prolly speculating on the EVO..but here guys own them, and have owned the car youre talking about. imo i think this forum just has more truth.

is it me or has the mustang, ALL OF THEM, have looked the same for the last 8 years? c'mon ford, get an idea in your head. i figured they might change it mup for the new mach 1. but no, it looks almost exactly the same as the regular mustang. @ least mitsubishi has the ***** to change their prized posession up. but wait, ford is making a new mustang..but, where did they get the idea from...oh, 1965. im sure it will sell quite nicely too, why? because most of us werent old enough, or born, during that bad *** car-making era to own or drive one. ford is boring. mitsubishi is simply cutting edge.

Oh no i didnt mean x pipe with headers i know that alone will cost almost 1,500 just to get it installed and parts. fordchips.com is the way to go. I can get on a dyno and get a tune for 500 bucks. Get the smaller pulley for 200 and exhaust for 300-400. 03 cobras off the line with that IRS does it hurt it either throw on some DRs not slicks, cause like you said the half shafts would hate it *SNAP*. Kenne Bells charger boostin 18lbs hit 9s barely a few months ago. What was all done to your stang and what did ya run?? What gears?? how many lbs boost?? ALL details

good price for evo????

ok just got back talking to a salesman at a dealer in my area. very nice guy. a neighbor if mine referred me to him, they have been friends for a long time. if everything works out with their shipments and my money im looking to purchase a car in the august shipment. i was eligible for a referral discount. with sunroof, spoiler, state tax, county tax, destination and all that he and i are estimating ill be getting it for right around 32 out the door. he said depending on how many they in the shipment he might be able to do better than that. how does this sound compared to what everyone else got??? let me know, thanks for any feedback.

I got $500 under MSRP. Many have gotten that and some have done better than that. Also, watch out for a dealer adding a destination charge. That is aready on the sticker and is just more profit for the dealer. My first deal that I backed out of was MSRP and had a dest charge. I ended up getting $500 under and no dest--$1100 difference.

Search around, there are plenty of posts here about getting these below MSRP.

Good luck.
