Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
Fellow EVOers,
I took delivery this afternoon, and after 148 miles (173 on the ODO) and a half tank of gas, I can safely say that I could care less about the markup. This is by far the most awesome car I've ever driven. I will
every time I sign my check, because I know that I got the car I wanted. I still want to believe that I'm dreaming; do I really own this car???
Incredible.
We'll leave it at that.

Ok, here's my dilemna. We here in Canada don't get the EVO VIII as you all know *damn you Transport Canada!
* Anyway, what should I do? Get an STi here, which I don't have to travel any great distances for, the dealer will know what the vehicle is, and how to fix it, and will probably cost less, or go down into the US and get an EVO VIII? I don't even know if they would let me bring the car back over the border since it isn't approved for sale here. It's not the same as going down and buying a Civic, because we have them here too. So I don't know what to do, I really want an EVO, but it may not be possible. I went to the DMV and asked them, and they wouldn't give me a straight answer, it's like they're trained droans "The vehicle you have enquired about is not elligible for sale in Canada" "Ok, but if I went down to the US, and bought one, and brought it back, would that be ok?" "The vehicle you have enquired about is not elligible for sale in Canada" "Ahhh! Nevermind!"
So I don't know what to do, maybe I'll just stick with my Civic and wait for the next EVO or get an STi

dealer 1st .... if they feel comfortable working on it, and can get parts, etc for it .... then it may be a solid option if you can indeed find a way to bring one over there without breaking an arm/leg in the process. But if it was me .... I would consider the STI if it's easily avail. -- less hassles, headaches, etc .... and you will have similar performance .... monster torquey engine at the expense of a little handling. Of course another option is buying a 350Z and installing the GReddy Twin Turbo Kit on it.
That's the road I would take ... although it's a much different set-up .... 350Z with twin turbo is a PHAT ride! Go check out this months turbo mag for more info .... good luck dude Guest

That's so lame!
LOL
Try and talk to their boss or something. What a bunch of stupid people!
Arent there people in Canada registering cars from all over the world that are not imported by the manufacturer? Sounds to me like you need to speak to some one more competent there...
Other than that, the Subaru STI is great car, a close second behind the Evo. The only thing I'd worry about is the detonation issue these cars seem to be having. Maybe wait and see how they will go about the problem at SOA or in Canada before buying one (in case you cannot get an Evo).
Well, I did what you guy said, and talked to someone that actually knew something. He said there is nothing wrong with bringing it up here, he said to expect paying a hefty tax at the border though that's all. Other than that he said the only problem may be getting insurance on it. I called my insurance agent (CAA) and obviously they don't have a listing for it, but they could just write a "special vehicles" policy for it. Then, I went to my local Mitsubishi dealership and asked them about it, they have never heard about it and looked at me like I had two heads
They were like "well, we have a nice Lancer OZ Rally Edition, that's probably the same thing that you're looking for, it's just that it's named differently down in the States." I just burst into laughter and walked away from that moron
I went to see the shop manager, which knows what an EVO VIII actually is for once. He said the only problem getting it in, is there is no warranty on it since it was not purchased in this country
He also said that they are not certified to work on that car, so that can be an issue too if they don't know what they're doing to it
So, it looks like I'll be getting an STi if anything (which there is nothing wrong with, it's a great car too.)
Oh well, guess I'll have to wait until the EVO IX, or if they bring the EVO VIII here like someone said next year.
As for the detonation issue, is that the same with the STi running 91 octane? (sadly that's the highest we get here in Nova Scotia). I know I've read that the EVO VIII knocks on 91 octane.
Oh well, no EVO for me
I need some

Yeah, it is. But I mean when you have your heart set on something like an EVO, and you can't get it, nothing can quite compare
Maybe I'll just wait and see, and stick with my Civic. There's nothing wrong with it, don't get me wrong, it's a great little car, reliable, safe, but it's just not fast that's all.
The only way to get speed out of a 7th gen Civic is to drop a K20A into it, but at least with an EVO or STi it's fast right out of the box.

You have one too?
Yeah I love it, never had a complaint with it, it's fun to drive, and a great little car, but obviously it can't compare with an EVO, totally different kind of car.
Oh well, some day I guess...

How could be it illegal in CA to have a car that was bought in the US, people move from the USA to Canada all the time, they dont have to buy a new car just because the car that they bought in the USA isnt elligible for sale in the Canada. For christ sakes, even the US license plate size are the same in Canada.
i was looking into importing an sti from canada for a few minutes. www.customs.gov , they have books they give out for free about importing or exporting anything, and they have books dedicated to the car import/export process. i heard it was easy, if u want the evo its worth a little studying.
See if you can get an Evo VII from www.evolutionimports.com to Canada without having it shipped to the US first, that would we sweet
With Current exchange rates ($.73 Canadian for every US dollar) , which the car market isn't adjusted to, you'll probably get a great deal. The JDM EVO VII, which is $34,999 US (with taxes), comes to $47,704.26 CAD (with taxes) after you convert it. The STi costs over $50,000 Canadian (somewhere around $51,000 i believe) after taxes and fees.
Just something to think about (if its possible)
