Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
I think i have driven just about evey new car made this year except for a couple, I am turning 20 years old, still in college but not old, see where i am at? I test drove the Evo agian right after testing out the CTS, the CTS is tight and i will be looking foward to the CTS-V but for now i think i am going to stick with Mitsu. I think the Evo is just the right car for me. Thanks.
I have the answer!!!
I know that people will probably flame me for this answer... but it sounds like the guy who originated the thread should look at getting a used 2002 Audi S4.
I know you can pick up one of these bad boys for under $35k with less then 20k miles on it.
With the S4... here is what you get:
- 6 speed
- bumper to bumper coverage for 3yrs/50k miles (includes wheel alignments, brake pad replacement, wiper blade replacement, loaner car for any service performed on the car, etc..)
- It is a rock solid V6 2.7L 5 valves/cyl Bi-Turbo motor, 250HP stock, with All Wheel Drive.
- All the 1st yr production issues were fixed by 2001.5 MY
- Plenty of Mods
- Lots of luxury
- Can give Evo's and STi's there run for the money.
My coworker has one and I'm really impressed with it. I help him get his MTM exhaust and ECU from another friend of mine at a good price. Next he is looking at getting Downpipes w/Testpipe... This car makes a big difference over stock when modded.
Enjoy...

I dont think that you should get blasted for this. All around the S4 is a nice car for what it can do. After driving one for over a year, I can say thet the handling doesnt do it for me. I could get coilovers, bars & braces, But i still would not rally an s4. Again it is a great car to own, but sometimes I love the hell out of it, and sometimes I just am not feelin it.

Well, I agree with a lot of what was written here but ironically silver rally, you are not alone in comparing these two cars. I am a huge car nut but I have many conflicting goals in life. On the one hand, I need a practical reliable car for the family and on the other, I need to satisfy my performance car needs and dreams which I've had since puberty. I actually had a deposit on a TSX before I bought my Evo. It is a very attractive sporty car that is fun to drive and VERY practical. For the money, it is a real bargain and you can always get a two seat sports car later. So why did I change my mind? When it came right down to it, while my brain told me to get the TSX, it just wasn't exciting enough for me. I know that in a years time, I would already be looking for another car and I didn't want that. The Evo is exciting, every second that you drive it and for me, that was what I wanted more than anything right now. I still have some practicality in the 4 doors. To a certain extent, you have to be true to your own gut feelings. What will make you happiest... a totally reliable, handsome and sporty car with tons of great features or a no holds barred, thrilling rally car that puts performance above all else.
I in particular wrestled with this because I previously had an Integra Type R (definitely falls into the latter category) and then an M5 which was a nice but overly expensive combination of both. I needed to downsize and could only choose one feature of the M5 (luxury or performance) and at the end of the day for, me performance was what I truly cared about. I am 100% satisfied with my decision. Hope this helps.

I'd honestly suggest that if you've got 35k burning a hole in your pocket and you cannot decide whether an Evo or a TSX is better for you, that you should quickly go to the used car classifieds, find a Miata 1.6-litre in good condition for $5,000 to $8,000, buy it cash, and drive it for at least 3-4 months through summer.
After those 3-4months, you'll have had some time with this very real driving experience, in this roadster that will either make you grin with joy at the simple experience of driving, or grimace because it's not comfortable enough for your commute, doesn't coddle you as you go stoplight to stoplight, and doesn't seem to have an adequete sound system as you cruise along. Then sell the car for a slight loss and buy either the Evo or TSX depending on how much you enjoyed the Miata.
I'm being semi-serious here, too. If you cannot tell the difference between the TSX and Evo, you'll be wasting your money buying either of those cars right now. The Evo is a driver's car, there's not much else in it. And the TSX, while a competent vehicle, is by no means a pure experience with it's FWD and luxury amenities.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

P.S.
If you are seriously looking at such drastically different cars you are liable to make a mistake.
