Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
Andy - hands down the TM is the way to go, and for that kin of moeny, you could have loads of toys added on 9as I know you will!)
Dated looking....not at all IMHO...its the baddest ***** of the bunch. But if given the choice with the VII or VIII, VII hands down (much cleaner looking IMHO)

I just bought a New Evo Vii and let me just say this... This car is simply AMAZING... never felt anything like it before, from acceleration to handling. Plus the car simply looks amazing... get the vii
Re: Best EVO ever? I need to know because I am buying pretty soon.
I have access to a TME for 16K$, a 7 for 22k$, or a brand new one for $32K out the door.
I know that many love the 6 & 6.5, but I think they are kind of VERY DATED looking.
I really like the VIII!
real collector's item and don't forget you get it with Certifcate of Authenticity as a limited production EVO, signed by Tommi Makinen.
i think only 1000 were ever manifactured in 4 different colors. so whichever color you get it in, you can be assured there are only other 249 worldwide identical to yours
however, if you prefer the look of EVO VIII then get rather that one
i don't think at all there is something weird about the look of TME, but i'm probably biased
i still can't get used to new looking EVO VIII, somehow to me it's missing something somewhere, i just don't know what it is but something is bothering me about the appeal of EVO VIII.
everybody is different and that's just my personal opinion.
EVO VIII may have 6th gear while TME more HP, so there are marginal differences, but overall they are all going to handle extremely well under extreme driving.
if money is not issue for you then rather get EVO VIII if you like the look more than the others.
cheers

wow thanks for all the indepth responses. i suppose the only way to really determine the move would be a test drive. all the dealerships in my area dont allow test drives, so i suppose id have to attend a meet to get a real idea of how the car drives. well im more than convinced paper wise on the move, now its just up to the real world drive. :] thanks again.
TME 100%....the Evo 6 was the last time the Evolution looked truly and utterly BADASS. Dont' get me wrong the Evo 7 had its all-around evil look. But theres very few TME 6's around that people are willing to part with.
And honestly on the streets of Tokyo or the Wangan Hwy, nothing will draw more stares from car aficianado's than a TME. You'll get more looks with a TME than a Skyline hands down. Unless of course it's the Top Secret Skyline or Signal Auto Skyline.
Go with the TME, for 16k its a great price....and just think of all the money you could put into the car by buying a cheaper one.
If you had 32K you could easily put 16K to buy it and the other 16k into mods. Imagine a TME with 16k in Mods!!!!!! Over 400hp easily.
Remember, there's only 1000 of them.

I'll keep this quick and simple as I'm not going to compete with the 9000 word essays above..lol
I've drove and still do drive two Infinitis. A J30 and an I30t. Both lux to the max. Leather, heated seats, Bose stereo, good torque under the hood,...yadda yadda. I still love the Evo. I got spoiled but not that spoiled. Of course the Bimmers are more refined than the infinitis so this could all go back to personal preference. I don't drive the Evo as a daily car either. I use my tercel for the daily beating. The Infinitis are road trip monsters though, so think about what you are going to do with this car and how it will be used then decide.

This is an awesome thread. Exactly what I have been looking for.
I am currently driving (have been for 4 years) a '95 M3, with some minor mods (Jim C intake, AA exhaust, Bilstein shocks) and I wanted to know how other M3 owners felt about an Evo before I really started trying to get my hands on one. I know this sounds snobbish, but an M3 can ruin other cars for me because it is such a great car IMHO.
I test drove an S4 about 2 years back and quite frankly couldn't wait to get back in my car. The S4 felt heavy and isolated from the road. The brakes were over-boosted, and the steering felt artificially heavy. It just didn't give me as much feedback as I was used to.
I'm really gonna try to get my butt in an Evo now with comments like this from other BMW owners. Every time I read that the Evo is "harsh" I just think about all the people who said that about the Bilsteins. Maybe they are, but that's the way I like it.
Hopefully an Evo doesn't understeer as bad as my All-Trac Celica did.
