Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
You usually have 24hrs to return the car for a full refund. Most dealerships abide by this and I'm sure Mitsu will to. Other note. I got my markup agreement in writing which you should have as well if there was an agreement. Double check that. If not talk to the rep that TOLD you he'd agree to a $2000 markup. If he denies every saying such make them take the car back. Get your money back and move on. $6000 is way too much.
I don't think you have any time to get out of the contract... but that may vary by state. My truth in lending agreement specifically said that it was a binding contract and that there was no "cooling off period." I think this is to counteract a law that says that you have 48 hours to back out of any contract, which gives you time to review the numbers in the contract. Someone told me cars and houses are the exception to that law.
Just go talk to the owners, managers, whatever. If they won't budge then file complaints with BBB, local "watchdog" groups for tv and print news, attorneys general state and local, mitsubishi, all the salespeople in the dealership, etc. Let everyone know how you felt you were treated. You can protest near the dealership (someone was doing that here a few weeks ago). They don't want a bad reputation, and will probably work with you to make sure you're happy with your purchase.

What state do you live in? Would call a lawyer as well, normally once a purchase and sales is signed by the customer and the selling dealer, its basically a done deal, with the exception if you did not take delivery.....in your case i dont think you have a case, but it never hurts to ask, and i would see if you could talk to the manager or owner, usually they have a worksheet they work the original figures on with the cust, when coming to an agreed price, hopefully the numbers are on it that the salesperson originally agreed to with you......hope it helps....good luck
In mass the law requires that car dealers take back vehicles within so many days, I think 15. I hope your state has a similar mandate.
Definitely a sticky wicket you've gotten yourself into. Dealers are sooo used to customers not paying attention to paperwork. Usually a dealer has a separate business manager that draws up the paperwork stuff so there's a chance that it's an honest error on thier part... but you not catching it is a big faux-pas.
Getting a lawyer is a real good idea since you must be steaming! A lawyer will not only know exactly what to do from a law perspective but will also have a calmer attitude. This mistake will cost you time and money, I'm sorry to say.
....and I've gotta say, even 2 grand over MSRP is too much, There's plenty of dealers in New England here that will sell at sticker no problem... and I even saw a SoCal dealer crying about how no-one is coming to his place to buy an Evo at sticker!
The Evo is truly an exiciting car... it took me a week to realize I can keep mine. But when it comes to car buying, you absolutely need to keep a level head. Good Luck to you.

Dude, paying a little over MSRP is a not a big deal if you get other things in return ... e.g., dealer convience, addititonal options, etc. In some areas it is very difficult to land MSRP ... and these cars are worth every bit of 35K ... some would say even more. I paid 32.8K, but have the dealer right down the street, and they give me rides to back to work if needed when I bring it in for service. They also take care of me in every way possible since I allowed them to make some extra $. Something has to be said for this .... especially the fact that I know my car is fully taken care of when I drop it off ... and the dealership has no problems with me watching or helping the mechanic work on the car. So to me ... the extra 2K spent will pay dividends over time. Just another angle to look at it man ...

Rip off
Is Ralph Nader still doing his lemon thing? You could do something similar like picketing in front of the dealership with signs that say stuff like "This dealership ripped me off for $4000!". They sure don't want negative press. Talk to them first then get busy. I'd say $4000 is worth it. Good luck.
I'm a loan officer in AZ (it might be different in your state) but generally there is a 3 days rights of recission that pretty much states that if you're not happy with the deal you have 3 business days to opt out and take the car back. It would specifically state what to do if you choose to recend(sp) the contract in the promisory note which is a legal document they made you sign saying you now owe them money.
Most states have that agreement for the express reason no one reads that crap. The 3 days is there so you can go over all that paperwork and figure out if you got taken or not.
Most states also have other protection for the buyer, if they give you any crap get your lawyer. Hopefully it won't come to that.
Good luck!

oh well.. my wife tells me that the sales guy never mentioned about lowering the markup so maybe what I heard was that he can try lowering the markup to 2k but never promised.
It was like around 2am when they were finalizing the paperwork and I was just signing the contracts quickly without thoroughly looking over it which I should have done.
Anyways, I guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it since I spoke to the Financial mgr and Customer Relations who said there is no way that I could've gotten it at 2k over anyways.
I guess mods are going to have to be put on hold *cough*
Not to bust your bubbles but $6000 markup
.
I recently got tag teamed at my local
dealer. The deal didnt go thru due to $300 that the dealer slipped in the paperwork, and the car(EVO8) was $1k below msrp. I hate dealers theyre like smeagol(lordoftherings), sneaky little bastard.
6k over is waay too much, anyhting over msrp is too much, the car is only worth $26k(invoice).
