Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
Well, I started off the morning as just going to the dealership to check out the Evo's they had (silver, sunroof)(red)(blue). The silver one had its seats stolen out of it the day before and the salesman said it was around $7500 to get some new ones. :::cough::: I checked it out and looked at all 3 while the saleman hovered over me like a hawk. He finally asked me if I was looking to buy, I told him yes of course the car is badass but I would never buy a car that I couldn't test drive first. He said "hold on" and ran into the office and talked to the manager and came back out with some keys. I couldn't believe they were gonna let me test drive the car! He looked excited as well and runs out the door to hop in the car. He backs it out and I get in and we drive off... He gets some gas real quick and we take off on the highway.
Of course he's all taking it slow and being gentle talking about the video they had to watch about driving this car on test drives. I tell him to kick it and see what it has to offer. He gradually increases speed in 5th gear. ARGH! I tell him to downshift and see what power it has and he looks at me weird and says, you can't downshift like that can you? I'm like.. omfg pull over and let me take over!
We pull over and I jump out and run to the door and hop in! Off we go again on the highway and I'm going about 70 and then downshift and feel the power and kick from the turbo as we run all the way up to 120mph or more... couldn't tell because I was distracted by the motorcycle cop looking at me on the other side of the highway going the other way! The salesman freaks out and says "he say you!!!" I'm like dont worry he can't catch me at this rate as we exit off the highway a mile down the road.
We get to the dealership and stop for a second to reflect what happened. I loved every minute of it..... and I barely went over 4k rpm!!! I was actually gentle. Steering was so responsive it took awhile to get used to... Overall... I LOVE this car!!!!!

I love the Evo, and have never driven an S2k, but I fail to see the rush. If it's financially painful to get the Evo now, then wait - the car will still be around, perhaps in even better trim. Enjoy your Honda till the lease runs it's course - or at least runs a while longer, and then consider a replacement. Rushing into the Evo now means less money for mods, and latent buyers remorse when overpaying (by the time you consider your residual).
Either way, you have a pretty sweet dilemma - keep the S2k, or get an Evo. I know more than a few folks that would envy your position

did you encounter a steep incline like 30-45 degrees that you have to downshift at 70 mph?, were you making a fast turn that you have to brake and downshift? If not, then that's not the way to drive a stick, downshift just for the heck of it? Either you have to still be in 4th at 70 or why be at 5th at 70 and then downshift?
Annoyances:
- With California gas (91 octane) you do not get the car's full power unless you splurge for race gas @ twice the price.
- Seats not adjustable in height, only front/back and recline.
- Steering is overboosted, which has benefits, but which you have to get used to (S2000's EPS may be similar?)
- 40-60 more whp with simple mods that still leave plenty of safety margin.
- My insurance company (USAA) does not consider the EVO to be a sports car.
Interesting that only 2 people so far have mentioned the small gas tank. After getting 500 miles on a rental S80 (well, it DID cost $40.20 to refill at $1.99/gal) I'd have to think that more people would get sick of the 14-gal tank. At least it's 1.3 more than JDM

Stay away from my dealership...Thank You
it is called unnecessary roughness!
