Boost Pressure Question
Boost Pressure Question
So, yesterday I was driving my evo, gave it a little gas to pass a car up (boost was around 15) and all of a sudden POP! My intercooler hose blew off from where it connects to the throttle body, good thing I carry some tools in the car with me, so I tighten down the clamp and go. Again, today I was driving... Same issue, this time at 10psi. Of course, I dont have tbolt clamps, so that doesn't help much. Im going to buy some tbolt clamps tomorrow to hopefully fix this issue.
Im just wondering why does the hose suddenly blow off now and not in the past? Also, is there any other issues that can cause the hose to blow off besides the clamp not being the proper one or it just not being tight enough. Let me know your thoughts.

If you get the clamps on unevenly, they will pop offf all the time.
Also when the stock rubber pieces get worn out, they will expand under pressure more and eventually work themselves loose enough to repeat the issue. You can purchase some silicone intercooler couplers for the stock piping or just get a new intercooler set.
But I'd start with the T-clamps. That fix it or at least buy you some time before you have to upgrade.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll def be getting some tbolt clamps tomorrow, hopefully thatll solve the issue. I was thinking of getting a new uicp anyways so I guess I have an excuse now.
When you get the clamps on and tight, you can check for leaks by spraying hairspray at the couplers. Sounds a little redneck but you can get a good idea if it's on there correctly.
Couplers popping off is so common, it's almost like a "rite of initiation" for new evo owners
Search around the forums, Google is better than the search feature here. type Evom and your question. Wealth of knowledge to be found here.

Thanks again. I haven't heard of hair spray to check for leaks, but Im assuming its similar to what spraying choke/carb cleaner near vacuum lines does. The only hair spray usage Ive heard before is to spray it on the part where the coupler goes, to help it hold more, similar to glue. Not sure if it actually works, but it couldn't hurt.
My throttle isn't closing though. Its only when I'm accelerating, not when my dv releases the pressure.

Well, I installed the tbolt clamp and it is still blowing off at WOT. I can see where the hose is bulging and needs to be replaced. Looks like ill be getting an UICP kit from one of our vendors.
