Also you have to factor in taxes, state fees, and insurance when buying/financing the car which would put it way over $23,000. So its even worse when people are asking more $.
But people with that poor of a credit score aren't good candidates to begin with, especially if it's a "kid." The "young people" you speak of should spend their hard-earned money elsewhere and not make poor financial decisions or chase things that they want but don't have the resources to get.

The scenario that R/TErnie was referring to when financing a Supra is not necessarily one meant to be possible for EVERYONE, but it's not an ultra-rare position to be in. I'm 29 with an 800+ credit score, and I've had a 750+ since I was in my earlier 20s when I first got an Evo. I'm sure I could've pulled it off. But a younger driver with a ****-poor credit score in the 500s is obviously not going to be your target market and won't get approved by a bank.

Doesn't matter what the banks will loan when RX-7's and Supra's are still fetching a pretty penny. And as people buy these cars....realize what it takes to maintain or go faster in them (or wreck them) it bodes well for the rest of us as the less Evo IX's there are available the better the resale price will be.

Plus I like building the car myself and buying a car that's modified is just not acceptable to me.

You were correct on one thing; you can make much more money by parting a vehicle out and selling it stock. It takes more work and time but is well worth it. This is why I keep ALL my stock parts, but there is a point you cross where going back to stock is not really feasible.

You will never get close to the amount of money you put into a car back. I see too often the guys that say I've put $30,000 into the car and they're selling the car as-is for $28k or similar
You definitely will not get as much back as going to stock. But for a lot of people that is too much headache. Very similar to people who don't feel like private sale so they trade their car in at a dealer. If you aren't willing to get a thorough inspection done to any car prior to purchase you are setting yourself up for failure. A car that was modded and then out back to stock is just as likely or more likely to have issues because it has been touched more. Any performance car purchase is a risk because the cars are driven hard. Pay the money for a pre sale inspection by a trustworthy shop and you could walk away with thousands in free parts. I would have loved to have had a bunch of free upgrades when I bought my EVO. I would never recommend modding a car as a way to get more money for it at sale time though. If it isn't a mod that you want and are willing to pay for then you should just keep the money.

Is rebuilt title the same thing as salvage title?

2003 with 82,000 miles for $8K sounds like a great especially if has those mods already.

I have those upgrades too. Except mine is 05 mr model, 35K mi, clean CA title... Except I'm asking $20.5 K or best offer... Lol

Salvage = Rebuilt.

Anything thats not a "Clean" title, will always be worth less.

I rather get a car the is worth less than get stuck with them big payments =[

Plus, no ones gonna know if it's salvage or not unless you tell others or show the title... Or plans on selling the car.

So rebuilt title is the same thing as salvage... Thanks

Laws differ in some states but in NV a salvage and rebuilt are slightly different. You cannot register a "salvage" car. You have to repair it and have it inspected by a certified garage saying the car is roadworthy. Once that is done the DMV will change the title from an orange "salvage" title to a blue "rebuild" title. So basically wrecked or repaired and roadworthy.

All cars that's been on an accident has to be inspected, I think. A salvage title car doesn't necessary bad though. As long that it's safe to drive and no frame damage. Like I said, I rather get a cheaper Evo that has the same performance as the other Evo with a clean title.
The only difference would be is the value of the car. Cheaper/salvage would be better if you are planning to keep the car period and not get stuck with high monthly payments. It all depends if your wallet can support or afford your needs/desires, I guess.
On the other note, I'm selling my EVO because we just had a daughter, I need something cheaper for insurance, gas, and monthly payments to accommodate or live comfortably.

Many times, if you buy a salvage title car you're the last owner. Most don't want to touch the car, properly repaired or not.

Salvaged cars are like girls with STDs. Nobody wants them.
