my prediction:
the MR will come and many people will buy it. As what they said about the regular evo being a limited production car, the MR will sell like hotcakes because of mindless rich mitsubishi enthusiasts, thinking it's a limited production car. Regular evo 8's will be sold cheap to 16 year olds that just got their drivers licenses, like how dsm's were.
then, mitsu will release rumors of a new EVO MR type R edition 232432432 with AYC!
Then the rumors, hype and all the MR vs. MR with AYC threads will begin.
lol, then all the MR owners that pre-ordered it and paid an arm and a leg will get pissed, because the new 0x MR's with AYC just costs a few thousand more which by now is around the 40k range... screw a z06 or a c6! (i'd have a z06 over an evo any day)
and let the c@ck envy begin again...
i'm happy with my gsr evo i paid under MSRP for...
and my econonmics prof predicted that gas prices will be up to upper 3 lower 4 dollars at the end of the decade. I definately hope that's not true

it's true, I want an MR, but I can't afford it, well, I don't want to. A few thousand bucks isn't that big of a difference as a whole, but it makes a difference when you can use that money for mods, tires, tuning, etc. etc. As a student, although I could stretch hard and try for the MR, it just isn't practical enough for me and I'm thankful enough of the changes they made to the GSR. Besides, although there are the lucky few that are getting the MR for MSRP, it's more than likely that most of them will have some kind of dealer markup.

If you try to purchase the Bilsteins seperately it will cost you close to $2000.00. Of course adding your own 6 speed would be rediculous for the price. So the real issue is why compare the STi to the standard Evo when we have the MR that gives you the "TOTAL PACKAGE" in comparison to the STi?

[QUOTE=JohnnyTwoThumbsPlus there is a lot with the MR over the EVO GSR, 6-speed, shocks, HID's that are OPTIONAL on the '05 GSR, QUOTE]
what does this gsr stand for? and how come its not shown on any of the new models to buy?

[QUOTE=tweekscratch]I seriously doubt there are many drivers on this site who would be able to tell the difference in handling between an EVO with a sunroof and one without.
- come on , they just have to lookat it??
It would be very easy for them to drop out and do to the US EVO what they did to the Eclipse.

A more appropriate comparsion is of course MR vs. STi, but not Evo vs. WRX. A closer torque difference between MR and STi and 6sp manual in both cars are enough to justify this comparison. Of course other people here don't want to agree because they all get the regular Evo only. Well of course you still can compare Evo to STi, just not as matching. whenever you compare sports cars, you always use the most powerful version. In this case, MR is the most powerful version, at least on paper. Afterall why people care which is more suitable to compare with which? Is it that important? In my opinion it is not important at all.
I was only slightly drawn to the STI. I would take an MR hands down, it's a better equiped car albiet you pay for it. I would like a 6spd but only for when I drive over 120 which is VERY seldom.
The original question was MR vs STi....This is not exactly a great place to get an unbiased reaction....maybe Dan Rather has a memo from an unimpeachable source that would help us.
I chose the EVO over the STi after test driving both cars twice each. I did not like the STi seats and I did not like rowing the 6 speed tranny. The EVO is like driving a go cart. It loves to take corners fast, and runs down the straights like a raped ape. I can only expect that the MR would reinforce my opinion. If the gearing on the MR is done better than the STi, then the 6-speed would be a benefit. In the case of the STi, I think it would be better off with a 5 speed like the EVO. More gears don't absolutely make for a better car. The just make for more shifting. I think the suspension upgrades on the MR are really more interesting. If they reduce the body roll and make it a little easier to induce oversteer that would rock. I don't know enough about the wheels to really comment, I like the Enkie's on the EVO.
I still think I should get to compare my EVO against the WRX though. It only seems fair
. Even if it is like a senior in high school picking on 3rd graders. Everybody should indulge in a guilty pleasure on occasion.
