seeing the evo in person for the first time gave me a whole new impression on the body lines of the mitsu...
i have yet to see a LIVE sti in person, i'm sure the pictures don't do it justice as with any other car...

I'm just curious, what do you find more aggressive about the looks of the STI? Also, what do you like better about the interior? I've never seen the interior on the STI so I don't know what to expect with it.

About the interior looks I like the chrome around the shifter, the guages, I like the steering wheel with the sti logo and I also like the Blue escaine seats with the sti logo on them as well. Of course this is just my opinion from purely looks as I know the evo has real recaro seats and a very capable 3 spoke momo steering wheel.
Thanks for the link!
As a previous VW 337 GTI owner and Vortex member, it read exactly as I expected. Comments like the EVO basically looks like a regular Lancer with a big wing and front fascia indicate that the writer (Jamie?) has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to the EVO.
BTW- How is it that the Vortex managed to have two reps participate in the test? Mason @ Tirerack, perhaps you could enlighten us? Seems like an equal opportunity invite to allow a rep from Nasioc, and from EvolutionM to participate might have made more sense.Probably a little more objectivity in the end.
Does anyone know, was the Vortex article the only output from that test session? If so thats too bad, as this kind of test opportunity doesn't come along very often, and the article might have been less biased had it been written by an independent journalist, and then posted on Tire Racks web site for all to see.
Overall a nice little promotional read for the R32, written by and for the VW enthusiasts that surf the Vortex. There were actually positive comments alluding to the EVO and STi's performance abilities. Maybe it was just me but these positive comments seemed to be qualified in a back-handed way that insinuated that the EVO and STi are better performers for the hard core racers who don't care about driving rough riding cars with "cheap" interiors made me feel somewhat better;-)
Thankfully adding new tires to the R32 should prove effective as an equalizer in making it competitive with the Sti and EVO. After all at the end of the day its all about tires right?
Sorry for blowin steam...I am done!!!This is just my personal opinion which may be way off base!!

What I liked about this test is that STi was as good as EVO in lap times:
The drivers that were willing to put their faith in the STi were rewarded with slightly faster lap times (although still only by a tenth of a second). "
I am a big fun of EVO, but we don't get it here in Canada and we might not get it in the future
So, STi is the only option.

While they certainly made no effort to hide the concessions to the R32s performance gap, the tires excuse is lame. They could have easily changed to a better set of tires, two of the testers were from Tire Rack. That was obviosuly not their objective.
The article just repeats what we already know, the R32 offers less performance, more luxury, and better materials, fit and finish. All very necessary to make them competitive in their primarily European market. And don't forget this comparison was with the Euro-spec R32 that they promise we will receive in tact.
EVO owners demand performance in lieu of luxury, comfort, fit and finsih, in our cars. We knew it going in and deliberately chose the performance aspects as more important than the others.
If you have to ask ...you just don't get it. If you get it...you don't have to ask.

that is a pretty good review considering it's on a VW board. I am content that they pointed out the strengths & weaknesses of the 3 cars involved and didn't bash any of them. I love my Evo, and I am 99% sure I would be as pleased with an STi. Not quite sure about the R32 yet, but I know a couple of hardcore VW guys that will be getting R32s soon and I can't wait to auto-x against them.

I liked how they always set up the scene for the R32's shortcomings when compared to the Sti or Evo. Interesting read tho.
cool review though!
