Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
What should one be worried about? The STi is a little faster in straight line while the Evolution is slightly faster in turns. So if anything, the title of this thread should be "who's worried about their racing skills?" Whether it's drag racing or auto-xing, the cars are gonna pull very similar times. I mean, a 0.5 second difference on a 32 mile roadcourse between two cars is nothing. At that point, it just takes one to deviate from the "line" and the other car makes a good gain or a pass.
I have respect for both the STi and EVO (even though I drive a WRX, shocking, eh?). Both cars are good and it just comes down to who can drive better. People on this board mention that many owners probably can't even drive 8/10s of the cars' potential. Let's take this a step further and ask, can one even drive consistant times? Many people I see at auto-x can't put in consistant times and tend to have 3 to 5 second differences (which is a lot for auto-xing).
STi
Evolution
Hrmmm, now if only the car market can be made sweeter with a quicker release of that Ford Cosworth Focus...

I need some help making a decision. Should i keep my 98 contour svt and build the the motor with forged parts and turbo charge it? or start over with payments and buy a evo or sti?
Been ask and discussed to death. Really up to you. Do a search, review all the specs, check for what fits your wallet, Weigh the pros and cons and make the decision. No one here can make the decision for you. With that said, you can not go wrong with an EVO or STi.

The contour is FWD. Get a car with a better drivetrain (AWD or RWD). The FWD will always limit your car's potential. Look at the SRT4, it's wicked fast but can only manage a 14.0 1/4 mile. If it was RWD or AWD those numbers would be 13.0-13.5.

I have the Solution
Bring me your Countour, and and Evo and and Sti. I will drive them through every possible condition you will encounter if you were to decide on one and keep it for 4 years. It will take me 6 months to drive each one through rain, snow, sleet, hot, humid, and perfect weather in all possible situations.. daily commute, road racing, drag racing, rallying.
After you bring me these cars and daily expenses for fuel, tires, oil. I will return to you a decision in 6 months to the date.
Please let me know when you would like to start.
