Evo not starting(starter?)

A couple of days ago i went to the gym and when i finished my work out my car started but made a nasty noise. I turned the car off and tried to turn it back on, but the car wouldn't start. I asked my friend to see if he could push start me and boom! fired right up. I thought it might have been the starter, so I took mine and had it rebuilt. I installed the starter today and still nothing. The car starts sometime (turning the key 20+) but not all the time. Tried to push start it again, and it turned right on. I have a alarm system and auto starter on the car, don't know if that could be effecting anything. I've had the car for almost two years and no problems like this so far. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

You need to troubleshoot ehich you have done of sorts by changing starter motor, is voltage constant from battery ? If so get the alarm checked then go from there is what I would do .

Is there a specific term for this "nipple" that you speak of? I'm having a similar problem with my Evo 9. I can hear the fuel pump turn on but the car only seems to start when it wants... Thanks for the info..

9 times out of 10 its just the solenoide. I actually go down to the local pink-n-pull and stock up on mitsu starters and rape the solenoides off of them, so that way when the starter goes I just swap them out.
