They are buying Evo 10's because that's what they, as tuners, need to do to keep up appearances. Because there is indeed still some hope that the Evo X will not turn out to be the one of the biggest automotive disappointments of 07-08. And if there is a way to make the Evo X do what an Evo should be capable of doing, then it is these guys. If not, our fears are confirmed and it's a drop in the bucket for them. At least someone is trying.

For everyone else who does not have a lift, manufacturer connections and very deep pockets for a project like this, it just doesn't make sense to jump on the bandwagon so quickly. All signs point to failure, unless of course you're not an Evo-personality. That looks like exactly what Mitsu is banking on, grabbing the attention of the might-be-Beemer crowd.

^ thats not going to happen. Someone going to buy an AUDI or BMW is not going to be like "well lets stop and look at that Mitsubishi all the magazines are talking about."
First off if you are going to build a car that wants to compete with The german sedan and win the buyers of those vehicles over you should never put a spoiler that looks as if the car belongs with the hoodlums.
In the end Mitsubishi once again took the wrong marketing path in hopes of spurring a upscale "german" sedan on the lancer/evolution platform.
Yes people will buy them and they will sell and I think they are a cool car but the buyers of a BMW or a Audi is going to be just that; a buyer of a BMW or Audi.

small clarification based on the information out there: the GSR will not come with a spoiler in a base package, SSS package will make it look like it belongs to a "hoodlum"

by the way, does your evo look like it belongs to a "hoodlum"?

Really? Because Mitsubishi seems to think otherwise. So does Motor Trend. But you've done your market research better than Mitsu and MT, I suppose.

Like the highly coveted Evolution/CSL models from Mercedes and BMW? While I agree that the X stands a snowball's chance in hell of swaying a sport-luxury buyer, it isn't an issue of its external styling. Having sat in several Lancers that share their interiors with the X, I cannot see how an Audi buyer could forgive the seemingly limitless quantities of hard, brittle-feeling, squeaky plastics. The quality of the materials is poor compared to the CT9A, and absolutely laughable next to a German sedan and competing entries from Infiniti and Lexus. If the car is as watered-down as it reads, Mitsubishi has successfully alienated its core consumer base and it didn't go far enough to reposition the Evo as a sport-luxury model. It's a lose-lose proposition.

There's "market research" and then there's "brain power". I firmly believe that Mitsu is really grasping here if they truly believe people interested in Acuras, BMW's, Infiniti, Audi, etc are going to be interested in a $41,000+ Mitsu. Mitsu doesn't have the status, brand name recognition, background, credentials, reputation, quality, etc. to be a competitor in that market place.

It's wishful thinking and it's just not going to happen.

ok yes, its an evo, but a freaking 08 lancer is 21k max right? i mean fully loaded. i dont get how an evo is supposed to cost 2x the amount of a lancer! id rather spend 16k on a lancer (base model) and take the difference of the base lancer and the X and mod it.

Yeah, cuz everyone knows it's easy to upgrade a Lancer to an Evo...

That's like the Kia salesman that told me you could "chip" a Kia Rio and make it perform just as good as my Evo lol. And no, I wasn't shopping for Kias, I was just there because it used to be a dealership...but the salesman assured me went bankrupt and no longer made vehicles at all...but he could get me a great deal on a Rio lol.

Sounds like 03 when I used to read just buy a lancer and stick 15k into and you'll have a car better then an evo. LOL the talk is going on once again.

why does every say 41k evo when thats the most loaded HIGHEST model.

The highest non corvette coupe is 58k

The highest 335i is 50k

the highest S4 is like 50+k

Please stop comparing the car to these 50-60k cars. I keep hearing about base model vettes and 335's and the most loaded evo

You do have a point. The MR trim offered in the states has normally included likely upgrades in a single package, for those who did not want to upgrade those parts themselves. It's sort of a "tuner-luxo" trim level. It comes currently with trinkets and do-dads more to do with the street (6th gear for lower fuel consumption on the freeway, more compliant shocks for absorbing bumps on the street) in addition to "tuner" parts like BBS wheels, gauges, etc.

The new MR appears to continue this tradition. Most people here should opt out of the MR package since they would probably want different wheels, tires, suspension, and tons of engine mods that would exceed the power ratings of the trick SST gearbox (besides...all these "real enthusiasts" ***** about it coming with an SST anyway). I mean, yeah you might not be able to use your Sat Nav...but real enthusiasts have rally co-pilots everywhere they go anyway...so there is no need.

That said, yeah, people should be comparing the GSR trim prices to the competition, not the MR version.
