Not that is matters, but I just got rid of my 06 Ridgeline. The front of that hood had at least 6 spots the size of a dime down to the metal. It was a lease so I did not care, but there is no way to avoid chips with high speed rocks/debris on ANY car.

The issue with the X is that if you don't do something, it is just like a sandblaster and will eat all your paint right off. That is the real problem. All car mirrors get chips from following trucks etc. Like many have said, if you are going to drive, chips will happen. We just need to lessen the impact on the doors and side skirts.

I am mainly worried about the doors and front of the quarter panel since they are metal and will rust. The side skirts are easy to remove, repaint, or replace. The doors are another issue as that will require much more to get fixed and make right (blend etc, I don't don't want to do that).

Has anyone ever tried this stuff/process? There are higher end cars like BMW and Mercedes, Lexus on the demo that have a lot of chip damage.

Ok fellas... Went by my dealer for it's first service and TSB on the hood latch. I started to talk to one of the parts guys behind the counter. Mentioned the paint issue to him and he slides me over a piece of paper with picture of the rear quarter with sections of where the protective film should go. Apparently, mitsu knows this is a growing problem so they are now offering protection in the particular problem areas for $129 for both sides, I believe. Don't quote me on that one though.

The area covered, and excuse the lack of pics, includes the forward area of the quarter panel in front of the tire(small area between door and tire), a strip that covers the rocker panel in front of the rear tire(my guess is about a 3-4 inch piece of 3M), and finally a nice, generous piece that covers the rear doors from just under the handles to the bottom of the door. That particular piece was shaped like the tape that came on the bottom of the rear doors already, but a much larger, more protective area was covered.

Hopefully, this quick fix will resolve the problems of some with concerns. The price is peace of mind, as well. I think it should have came from the factory like this, but the point is moot. To all of those whose cars have been destroyed by this nonsense, I hope you get all your problems fixed and then some.

Fight the good fight!

Thanks for the info. I called Mitsu and confirmed this, as well as calling my dealer who also confimed this. Although he did not have a price on it as of yet.

unfortuantely while that may help be proactive in preventing the chips, those that have already had their paint destroyed need help too. Hopefully mitsu recognizes this and figures something out for people that are going to have to have the cars repainted.

is this worth complaining about to the dealership and trying to get it covered under warranty, or will they just say normal wear and tear from debris?

yeah so I called Mitsu back and complained about this and they opened another case on this issue. (Same issue new case) So well see where this goes. They might be having to do something for the already damaged (case by case). Wishful thinking I know.

That was me, I put out the part numbers some where in this thread before.

The kits run for $119.95 from your dealer.

Actually I just check those part numbers don't go to the kit so I'm going to call my PDC later and find out what the deal with these kits are.
