I recently have been looking into this same issue. I wish I could replace my FAST key fob with one aftermarket 2-way alarm/key fob (like Viper or Compustar) that includes remote start. I dont want to lose a FAST key fob and I want the FAST key to still work in case I wanted to use it. The only remaining issue at this point seems to be when you remote start the car, then get in to drive - when you step on the brake pedal the engine shuts off.

I dont know that effectively starting the engine twice every time you use the remote start will materially reduce the life of the engine (besides the starter itself), but that's a deal breaker for me.

I havent felt it's worth getting an aftermarket security system yet if I cant also add a remote start that works the way I want it to.

I would imagine there's some way to crack the system, either mechanically, software-wise, or both. But, no one has apparently spent the time and resources yet to do it.

i agree with the op complaints. but what bugs me more is the non stop seatbelt beep. PLEASE NO LECTURE ON SEATBELT SAFETY. the warning beeps is fine if it was every 5-10 min.. but non stop kills me.

Tonight I want to leave car running, it was cold.
I take the remote with me step out lock the door, while using the auto up window switch.
Now I go to unlock the door can't, nothing works remote is flashing & key isn't opening the door.
Pop a lock got it open 123, thank god it was In a populated area. I was fuming pissed.

Do you not have the removable key from the FOB to open the driver's side door? IDK how you got to the point you had to have someone pop the lock for you.

I think in most cars (not just the evo fast key) the fob will not unlock/lock if the engine is running. Why didn't you use the actual key to unlock the driver's door?

I did, it did absolutely zero.
The key fit the slot, but it was like the lock was frozen.
Never in my life have I ever had a car not open with the key.
Even the pop a lock guy was like wtf?

Turns out dealer cut 2 keys wrong.
Since they went out of business, take a guess who's buying new keys. ?
I'll give a hint, not Mitsubishi.

That sucks!

But for everyone upset, it's really not that hard to leave the car running. Just get in, start the car, open the door to get out and lock it with the lock button on the door. Close the door and you're car is running and locked.

Just make sure your valet key works before you do it.

I have a viper remote start with smart start and I can open my door without the car cutting off when its remote started. Also love that I don't have to carry an extra fob since I can just use my phone. Smart start definitely the way to go.

Once u get in does the engine cut off when u open the door or step on brake? Or can u just get and drive after its been remote started?
