Please get a lawyer. Like someone said before, the dealership knows they are at fault for this. DO NOT make a deal with the dealership without talking to a lawyer first.

Wow just wow, someone isn't telling the truth. I'm willing to bet the dealer techs did the install and they screwed something up big time.

This may have been answered already, but does any of the invoices you have list the cobb upgrades? or did they just "roll in" those upgrades without listing those parts as an line item on your bill of sale?

Like everyone has said, get a lawyer. I feel for you man, hopefully you can work this out, don't let the dealership squirrel their way out of this. Keep us updated.

A long time ago I read this guy glued lemons on his car, parked it in front of the dealership with a sign saying
"don't buy lemons here" apparently his car was a lemon, lol.

Anyways the car owner guy got news coverage and the dealer paid because of the embarrassment it caused his dealership. I don't think they want bad publicity???

All you need is one afternoon, a few dozen fake or real lemons and a piece of cardboard.
Make those mother ****ers pay!!

just searched and heres one hot off the net --- http://www.wcax.com/global/story.asp?s=11045006

Mods = voided warranty. they will always say extra boost = extra cylinder pressure = boom boom. Dealerships cant sell you an extended warranty on a modded vehicle. It is considered a fraudulent sale. And if they do sell you an extended warranty on a used modded vehicle, they must cover you issue because at the time of the sale, they agreed and were aware that they were selling you a warranty for a modded vehicle. So that means you are covered as if you weren't modded at all. All you need to do is bring a lawsuit, and the dealer will pay, they have to. Or else they will face fraud charges.

as many have said you need to consult a lawyer for a short bit. who knows how may laws where broken with the sale of the car if for no other reason the federal bit about tampering with emissions which would be a fine for the dealership, service department and the tech if the subject was pushed. If you bought the car as is tho which could be done for a none street legal car but I doubt they could have got you financed and tagged that way. It may not have been a cobb issue as much as people are saying since you could have been building to much torque in 4th and 5th not thinking about it. most people who install the parts independently are aware of and driving habit changes required. But when people buy them from dealers used or new pre modded they think all should be good and the car should be know different then stock but with more power.

I had the same problem... I bought my 08 evo x exactly a year ago I only put about 6k miles on it.. always took very good care of her... never abused the car. I only had bolts and I was turned by a Cobb tuner.. the car ran awesome the car made 315whp so not a lot... I was cruising on the freeway with my wife and son when my car bogged down and turned off at first I thought maybe it was my battery because the starter wouldn’t turn over... so we tried everything to start it and nothing... I checked the oil level it was fine. My car never got hot and I wasnt pushing it at all..so I ended up taking it to the shop so they could look at it... well it turns out my piston smashed a valve and ****ed my engine so now I have to buy a new one... does any one know why this would happen? The timing chain never broke and it wasn’t loose at all.. I always checked my afr and it was running fine.

miss shift -> over rev -> valve float -> Piston to valve contact -> valve damage -> bad things start happening. Not saying this is what happened, only what could have.

F*****ck this thread had me worrying. My piston broke @ 50k miles ( i have a picture in another thread) but it was most likely due to meth distribution and running lean @ 30 psi. I bought a new short block assembly from Mitsu and put the head/timing chains myself with new tensioner and water pumps etc.. Now i'm scared I may have messed something up. I quadruple checked the timing chain install but now my heart is scared of otherwise... Engine going in the car this weekend.

PS i'm no mechanic, far from one. I'm just a garage monkey who majored in software engineering and this is my first ever engine swap

tbh i dont think you should worry about y it blew but what your gunna do to fix it. its pointless now to look back at it, you bought a evo that was abused i wanna say almost 100% that you dont even know what was in your car nor did the dealership. tbh you bought a evo used with mods you should have taken it right away to go have it looked at after you boughjt the car at a known tuner so they can fully inspect it and make sure you were setup not to fail tbh. the previous owner traded his vehicle in knowing the issues. you just gotta get over the fact of y but what attorney you will use to make your case
