If you only had the car for a week and they want to change the engine for free and void the warranty...I think you should at least get the money back for the extended warranty you purchased. That would almost be fair. I say keep the mods and tune the car. Although you could probably trade your after market parts to someone on here for stock parts + cash. Review all of your paperwork, if you haven't done so and look for anything mentioning having the aftermarket parts already on the car. Window sticker maybe? I would fight pretty hard to keep the warranty just on principle.

I cannot tell you how many used X's I have looked at that have had modifications done to them, and, in some cases, it was very obvious that the car had been modified but was returned to stock. The X is the kind of car that is hard to leave alone as is. There is something about it that makes one want to start changing things to get even better performance. I know, I am guilty of that myself.

I came close to buying a used X with lower mileage, but in the end, I decided to play it safe and buy new. With the prices that dealers get on used Evo's, it almost makes sense to buy new. And, when it comes to modifying the engine, having the right tuner will pretty much guarantee safe operation. My tuner-Ron Soliman of RS Motors, is renowned in the Upper Midwest for his amazing tunes that make great, usable power, but are done on the safe side. Ron can tune for more power, but then he warns his customers of the risks involved. So, a person should either stay bone stock, or have a professional, quality tune done.

Final update.

The dealer came back after taking the engine out and told me that the car now needs a new clutch for reasons I still can't understand and that they would not be paying for it. They told me it was going to cost $700 which resulted in me flipping the F**k out and told him I would see him in court if this doesn't get taken care of like I was promised.

Obviously I did not want to go to court. Talked to a laywer and he said I did have a case. But we could be tied up in court for a year, and I would have to make the payments on the Evo and I would be driving it without any coverage. And thats if I even got it back without having to pay for a clutch.

So we all met up at the dealer later that day and came to a agreement. Which was they take back the Evo, meaning I owe nothing on it and it's out of my name. But I had to trade it in for another car on their lot. The only had a couple cars the was new enough that still had a factory warranty. So I picked a 2012 Charger. But since they took back the Evo at full cost which was 29k, they would not come down on the sticker of the Charger. They also redid my interest rate which is 2.8 vs 4.7 on the Evo.

So thats it. I wanted them to take the Evo back and walk away but they would not let me do that. I also wanted to get the trade in money that I got for my truck and they would not do that either. I tried to make the best out of a bad situation. It was either this or fight them over the clutch and getting back a Evo with a used engine with no coverage on it, or going to court.

The car I got is a 2012 Charger SXT with the Rallye package. 7500 miles. Had to pay sticker price which was 26k. Already spoke to one dealer and they were not willing to work with me on trading in the car. -- The Charger is really nice, but for that kind of payment I want to actually pick out what I want. So I will probably have to keep it for a while which is fine because the car is nice and has a full factory warranty.

Overall I am not happy with how this all turned out but I guess it could have been worse. I was lied to so many times I lost count.

damn dude, ****ty update.

There is a reason I told the guys in there to go **** themselves and walked out when I had almost 10K cash to put down on the WW evo 8 they had.

I had a bad feeling the minute I got there, and it only got worse once I was dealing with them.

its never a good sign when they keep a sheriff on the premises all hours. lol

Let's not all make the guy feel worse, OK? Let's just say "I'm sorry that this happened to you" with some sympathy or walk away (silently) with a feeling of relief that it wasn't us.

OP - I'm sorry that this happened to you

Yeah, I'm sorry. I see Iowa killed my post. I've just had bad experiences with the pentastar via friends.

Best part is there's plenty of vehicles out there, and plenty of other places to take your business. Sorry you got it so bad.

I'd have thrown down the cash for a new clutch with the semi used motor and called it good. Or threw down the difference and picked up a new short block. Seems silly to capitulate to some crap you didn't want to begin with. That's just me. Buying a used performance car is a gamble. You win some you lose some. Seems like all the options were not exhausted here. Just my 2 cents...

Ugh, that sucks.

Buying a used Evo (or any other sporty manual, or even any manual period), you should ALWAYS have the money ready to pay for a clutch though... It might go out the day after you bought it, the week after you bought it, or years after you bought it, but there is absolutely no way to tell. Even if your aftermarket warranty had stood up and still been valid, it wouldn't have covered a clutch since it's a wear item.

I personally would have asked to have it taken to a trusted 3rd party to inspect to make sure nothing else was wrong, and if it checked out paid the money for the clutch.

Thanks for the comments guys. Maybe one day I can get another one and I won't make the same mistakes I made this time.
