Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
well i see it this way mitsu got all they could pull out of the 4g63 and still get good MPG, and pass emission regulations. The 4b11T is going to have a starting point of 287HP cannt see mitsu going backwards, the 4g63t started out with only 145HP in 1987 thats 20yrs ago, it was time to giveup that block.
I just spent a solid 2 hours on modifying the front view of the X in Wicked White, and just lost ALL my work to a system crash... Ahhh!
What's worse is that it looked absolutely ridiculous :P

I figure the price will be $37,000 which is around what you would have paid for a JDM EVO 7,8,9 in Japan. GSR Model.
So look for the new one base model to be around $37,000 and the MR to be around $40,000
Mitsu has bumped the price of the Lancer to push the pricing window up and added a Turbo the Ralliart edition. They arent dumb. They've also added alot more features to the EVO to go after the BMW and AUDI markets.

The X will most likely start in the low to mid-30's for a stripped down version (i.e., RS, manual tranny). A fully decked out version will probably be in the low 40's (i.e., leather, sunroof, nav, upg. audio, DSG, etc.). IMO this is very much in-line with
's target market. A fully decked out X with DSG will be an option for many folks currently looking at Audi and BMW. Remember, the majority of the American car-buying public does not drive stick... With an available DSG
should at the very least double its Evo sales in the US.

If you have Audi and BMW cross shoppers they won't pay 40 or 40+ for a Mistubishi! They would just buy a Audi and BMW for that price. If Mitsu is indeed trying to go after that entry level luxo market w/the EVO then they need to price it below those brands. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they think they can compete at that price.
^ I don't think that is necessarily true. If Mitsubishi keeps the X on the lighter side (e.g., less weight and also lighter 'feel', as in lighter steering feel, etc.), then I think there is a market there. Audi AWD cars have fairly heavy steering and generally feel more cumbersome. Bimmers aren't as bad, but still have that solid teutonic feel as opposed to the lighter feel of a Japanese car.

Your missing my point, I don't think that the name Mitsubishi holds much for the general car consumer (usually people not on this board). When the general car consumer looks for cars in the class of Audi, BMW, Lexus they don't necessarily think Mitsu and if they did and saw the price equal to those brands I just don't that type of consumer is willing to pay that for a Mitsu when they could have a brand they percieve as being better wheather true or not. So if this the type of buyer Mitsu is trying to attact they have to be less expensive than said other brands. Remember mitsu is trying to save its rear here in the states they can't over price this car.
Performance car buyers are a tad more savy than most. It's why Nissan will be able to sell the GT-r for 70k instead of having to make it an Infiniti but then it's competing with Porsches' and Z06's. If a fully optioned Evo is going to sticker for 40 or more it's going to hurt Mitsu's sales. Mitsu is going to have alot of competition in the next couple of years including from BMW and their 1 series. Rumor has it now that the M1 (if they call it that) would either use the TT V6 or the e46 M3 engine. M3 power with a few hundred less pounds is going to be impressive.
If mitsu does want to sell a 40k evo then they really need to nail the Lancer raliart with about 240hp, AWD and some good suspension bits for around 25k
