nice story

I think I read that the gear changes wouldn't always happen when the driven wanted them to and they could be a bit jerky. Even the SMG II type gearboxes aren't quite as good as a good manual and driver yet going on some of the road tests I have seen and read. The new DSG in the Golf GTI and other cars looks like it might be though.
I think though that if you don't want a manual then there are probably better cars for you anyway. I'm not saying you wouldn't like the Evo, just that if an auto would suit the driving you do better, then a car with a little bit more luxury or a little bit easier to live with and similar performance would probably be a better choice, like an RX8 or something. I don't know what cars you get in the same class. I guess it mightn't cary 4 or 5 people quite as well. Maybe not, just a sugestion.

It's not about the luxury primarily for me, I have a WRX as a daily driver and it's no luxury car. RX-8? No torque and high gas consumption and "fishy" styling. I had a Mitsubishi before and if the right EVO comes around I would have one again. An auto or a DSG/SMG style tranny for me on a daily driver, please.
I didn't mean a luxury car, just something with a bit more luxury than an Evo or maybe a little bit nicer to drive. Also I have no idea what cars you get in the Evos class that have auto gearboxes, the RX8 was the first that I thought of and it mightn't even have an auto anyway? I left it up to you to think about what else might suit the driving you do better.
I understand what your saying, I'd have the Evo too but regardless off the traffic an auto gearbox would be the last thing on my mind. It might be slightly easier in the heavy traffic but then the Evo wasn't meant for heavy traffic so when I took it somewhere to drive like it was meant to be driven I'd only want a manual. That's why I thought another car might be the answer, but then not everyone can afford 2 cars and to have one of them just sit there waiting for the right time (that includes me). So I guess a DSG/SMG type transmission would be the answer.
