Edmunds: First Drive: 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
The one thing that concerns me is Edmunds was guessing an additional $2k bump over the IX. So for an MR we are talking what $38k! Thats a whole lot of change especially when a 135i is expected to be around 35k.
Mitsu is going to have alot of competition. Looks good though.

This thread is frickin hilarious! The X bashers and apologists, the STi nut swingers, the naysayers and the optimists! It's one big happy Evo family!
Anyways, I can't wait for this new X to come out. Having owned basically every year DSM and driving a IX regularly, it seems the X is going to handle like a beast right out of the box. Just because you don't need to take it to a driving school, doesn't mean it isn't going to be fun to drive.
To put it in perspective, there are many factors why it is heavy, slow, etc... One of which is being YOUR government! You think that Mitsubishi wouldn't LOVE to build the Evo X using the same government restrictions it had in 1989 when it released the 4G63 in the GSX ? You bet your *** it would! That was almost 20 years ago! Times change, and the government comes out with stricter rules and safety regulations for new cars. It's a delicate balance that car manufacturers play... But all you see is Mitsubishi giving the enthusiast the middle finger. I'm sure thats exactly what they had in mind when they designed the X.
You people can ***** and complain all you want about the Evo X and how it is or is not a real Evo, but to me.. this forward progress and change is EXACTLY what the EVOLUTION is all about.

Well I admit I am a little disappointed, but not because I think the EVO X is a bad car (it most certainly is not), but because I was expecting a lot more. Still I have hard time trying to figure out some of you EVO X haters out there. Nonsense, nongat, what ever the f*ck your name is you did actually read the entire article
? If you actually read the article, you will see that the tone isn't remotely as negative as you try to make it out to be. In many ways the authors of both articles seem to feel the same as I do, meaning the EVO X just wasn't what they were expecting, but this doesn't mean it is a bad car, not a bad car at all. Less entertaining is a matter of opinion and I have a hard time believing that most EVO owners who deal with snail pace traffic and speed limits will actually notice a difference. What they will notice is a much improved interior, a car that seems like it will be more easier to live with day to day, and while not the stand out look at me design of the IX, still has a more expensive mature look to it (the same can't be said of that hatchcrap subaru). Now with that said, it is quite obvious that the EVO X has lost some of its rawness that we've grown accustomed to loving. While I do love that about the EVO, that doesn't mean that the EVO X lost any of it's edgy performance, infact the EVO X looks to be one of the best performance EVOs ever. To many people passing the guy next to you on the track is pretty entertaining, and I wonder how entertaining it will be to a person when they are smelling EVO X exhaust fumes (I guess being that you are a Subaru owner, you can chime in on that one can't you, gives us your perspective, pretty sure you've spent countless numbers of hours smelling EVO exhaust fumes
). Sure I do feel like the EVO we once knew has died, but the EVO still lives, but just has morphed into something we are all just not accustomed too, and it will take some time to get use too, but in the end as long as the performance remains we will still find a way to love the EVO. Here is my ranking of the EVO X compared to the EVO IX-
Exterior Styling- EVO IX ( I personally like the look of the EVO X and feel many also do, but to be honest I have to take into account that there is a majority who don't.)
Interior Styling- EVO X
Power- EVO X
Torque- EVO X
Acceleration- Tie
Handling- Most Likely EVO X
Braking- Most Likely EVO X
Options- EVO X
Aftermarket- EVO IX (Sorry the 4G63T rules.)
So what is the problem, really. I admit I can understand how the weight gain and the softness is a turn off to some, but seriously as long as the performance remains, I think it really isn't too difficult to get over a more comfortable ride now is it? If there is anything I am disappointed about, it is that I was hoping for the EVO X to become even more, I was hoping that Mitsubishi was ready to take the EVO X to the next level of performance. But I have to remember how Mitsubishi works as a company. Some companies are willing to take the Elevator to the next level of performance, it seems like Mitsubishi likes to take the steps. While a little disappointed, at least Mitsubishi is taking steps up and not down.

After reading that article Im more excited about this vehicle. I really like where Mitsubishi took this vehicle. Really because it has a lot of balance now. I do enjoy the hyper-ness of the current Evo, but I also enjoy cars that when cruising can be softer and also be a amazing vehicle when pushed. It reminds me of the Audi RS4, which when under normal conditions feels like an Audi. Soft, quiet and composed. However, downshift and another type of vehicle transforms around you. I enjoy cars like this. To me the new Evo X has this flair. Like two personalities in one body. Its an all-around package that looks to be an excellent addition to the Evolution line.

is doing with the X...it seems like all the cool features...like SST...HID's...will be available on the MR...while leaving the regular GSR very basic...(as far as we know)...to the enthusiast...its gonna be an obvious choice to go with the MR...while "off the street" consumers will also prolly go for the MR because of the auto...So really I do see an over abundance of MR being produced and on the street...You say that
is going up instead of down...well lets look at
's competitor...Subie STi will be making what like 320 HP...it also will be lighter...still think
made the right choice?...I have a feeling the X will be smelling STi's fumes stock vs stock...If
is catering to the more general public soon the perfermance of the car will deminish for good and it will end up like the eclipse...that's the way I see where things are heading...but most likley than not...there will be eVo no more...

I would like to agree with you as with what you say does make sense...that's why a lot of new "off the street" consumers will be buying the X...more so over the current VIII and iX eVo owners...I too was expecting more out of the X than the 9HP/11TQ increase...Honestly with those power ratings its not going to be faster than the iX...not enough HP...to compensate for the extra weight...not to mention the close resemblence in styling to the regular lancer...This aside...as the styling seems to be a personal preference...Lets focus on what

Whose insecure Vigo?...I choose to drive cars that stand out not blend in...I'm an attention *****...what can I say...you know what's lame? you driving the same car as every other a$$hole in a grocery getter...
Do you even go on other car forums? The X gets such a mixed review from the eVo community like no other besides the STi forums...eVo is not the only car I have...I am not pulling numbers out of my ***...I've seen reactions by others when a new model is released and the X is not a hit among its community...its a hit amongst the outsiders...
