Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
Can a Hybird car do this..... Oh, the day when cars were fun...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D53yHBT8-LM
Its not Evo XI, its the next generation. We will probably have the Evo XI an maybe even the Evo XII on the current chassis running a petrol 4B11 before this hits.
That said, I won't consider a hybrid Evo at all. Who wants a 4000 pound battery powered Evo that probably cannot be modified? Not me. Don't screw up your only car that truly beats to the pulse of the enthusaist, Mitsu! The SST was a hard pill to swallow, but at least a proper manual is still made available for those of us who value more driver engagement. However, this hybrid crap is a crime.

Everyone started crying when Mitsu announced that an all new Evo (X) will finally have an all-new engine (4B11T). The 4G63 was considered Mitsu's holy grail and people just can't accept it was finally put to rest. Now that the 4B11T has started proving itself (ie. RyanGates' TA X), people began to open their minds.
The Evo going hybrid in the near future is inevitable. If you keep up with the current trend of the automotive industry, you will realize that every automaker is pushing for green technology. Why should Mitsu fall behind? The Evo is Mitsu's halo car... it has to be equipped with the best technology they have to offer. Have you guys seen the all-electric Evo Concept that they built 3-4 years ago? That was a sign of things to come.
Have faith with Dr. Evo and the Mitsu engineers, they will not let the Evo fail, specially in performance, tunability, & styling. After all, isn't why they named it the Evolution? It has to evolve, it will not be left behind.

I really dont have a problem with going green; I also dont have a problem with Mitsubishi Motor trying to corner the elertic car market, the way toyota cornered hybrid market in sales with the Pruis (which is a great car); but it always come down to consumer and maintenance cost; a plug in vehicle in the USA is seriously going to raise your electric bill (someone is going to capitalize in this capitalistic society)which is fine as long as it does not increase your regular gasoline cost (in this ecomonic chart, the demand cuvre will shift from gasoline to electric); i always think ahead and im trying to figure out if anything goes wrong with an electric car, will the repair and parts cost be worse than the cost of someone taking their BMW M5 to be serviced? also how much will a lithium polymer battery cost when they need to be replaced from the dealer? Going green is a plus from me and for those that will come after me but it is going to be expensive and cost is a serious issue for most people in the world today(recession?). IMHO they should had first made a car that ran on alternative fuel like bio diesel like what audi did with their R8.
If you guys have ever seen hybrid versions of vehicles versus their fossil fuel counterparts......the hybrid is always faster because of the electric motor assist. The accord, the Lexus GS and LS, Toyota Camry, Highlander, etc.
Going hybrid isn't a bad thing. One of the biggest complaints about the Evo has been gas mileage/consumption. I'm more concerned with the styling. I'm the opposite. I loved the X and then I slowly started liking the IX more.
Mitsubishi isn't stupid. They know even though they aren't in rally anymore the Evo has a huge worldwide following and has set numerous performance benchmarks.
Just hold your breath. I'm not a tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination (I run catless but I do run E85....and I've been watching the non mainstream coverage of the documents uncovered showing global warming is a hoax by the same scientists that have been used to prove it) but cutting pollution isn't a really bad thing....and if we can get greener performance cars I'm all for it.

You are insane!! They are not faster then a gasoline car!!!! Look at the tesla! That car cost over $100,000 is a true hybrid sports car and a stock evo 9 out accelerates it. Besides that factor, think about the impact this is going to have on the whole community! What are all the aftermarket parts makers going to do?? Think about EVERY company that relies on the evo for cash. It is very sad to see they feel they need to make a hybrid when other companies are belting out 15mpg cars ASAP before there is a law against it. This is a huge mistake. Might as well take a mini van and make it a mini cooper next year. It loses its whole point.
