Lancer Evolution XI goes hybrid [merge]
^+1. The X is a very new platform with regards to chassis, engine, etc. Doubt it will change significantly when the next generation comes out... probably looking at 2012. If anything, maybe a minor power bump to keep up with the competition... perhaps a modest 30-40 crank hp increase. (easily attainable with just a factory retune)
If Evo X's are still be produced this coming May, they'd be the longest running incarnation thus far.
I'm not saying the economy is going to delay the XI, but don't blame a 2011+ release on trends...
If you ask Mitsu directly..ie the PR department, the X is currently scheduled to be the last production line evo in the US, with future evo's remaining oversees. Presently Mitsu claims that they intend to focus their efforts on a 5th gen eclipse with the intent to produce the rs, gs, gst, and gsx lines.
The real answer is who really knows.

If Mitsu does stop production of Evo's in the US to bring back the gst/gsx equivalent I would not be heart broken at all. Considering they make the eclipse a good equivalent and not some cheap replacement.
^ I doubt they will, they should just limit production on USDM Evos... don't kill the halo car. Flooding the market with Evos means a lot less profit for them & their dealerships. What they need to do is really rump up and improve their regular consumer production cars here; this means going with the trend.... bring-in fuel efficient mini compacts like the colt, miev, and further improving the lancer & outlander... dump the galant, endeavor, raider... bring in the turbo-diesel strada pickup and montero sport from Asia. They need to be really competitive, price their vehicles aggressively, give the customer more bang for their buck. This is how Honda captured the market back in the 90s.

Seriously we should start a new thread for us to show Mitsubishi they will be losing all of us as future potential buyers. I think this is straight up suicide for the company barely breathing as it is now! What is Mitsubishi without the Evolution? A bunch of s*** cars that no one buys.
If they go through with this I hope they completely fall on their faces and crumble.

Seriously though we should start something before it's too late.

Years ago, the common thought was fast it had to be V8. The stuck in their way V8 people would turn their nose up up at a turbo 4. (some people still think this way, but it used to be almost everyone) A bunch of the post above sound like the stuck in their way V8 owner...
Eh I see what youre saying, but cars are becoming more like computers each day. We might as well be driving thru an LCD screen windshield that projects an image gathered by a camera in the front emblem.
Cars originally marketed toward enthusiasts like us will soon be like gingers...soulless.
