Evolution MR - Mitsubishi Racing [MERGED]
I wouldn't be too suprised if the MR has little changes to it because they always have to change something. But they should leave it the way it is just like Subaru did with the STi. Hell the US version got an even bigger engine.
I am not to mechanically sound but what is the difference between a torsen and a LSD ( did I say that right
)
But in terms of cornering, accelerating and which is better suited for what kind of driving. I saw this covered before on this site but I forgot where and too lazy to look.
Any one who knows what I am trying to ask please answer.

Other types are Viscous fluid based
Mechanical locking (usually with some type of clutch pack) with 1, 1.5 or 2 way locking.
SurTrac in the STi
I like TORSENs the best (TORque SENsing) for there seemless action.

MR
Yeah, the MR in
red is nice, but it's playing with fire. The Evo is eye catching to begin with, making it red is like waving a red flag to a bull... err pig. The police will ride you daily
.
I had a red Integra... and let me tell you, police followed me like flies on sh*$... yeah, it did have a CF hood and aftermarket exhaust and wheels (the only things visible/audible... at WOT), but still. I'd come and go from the hospital, and they'd be on me. They'd even follow me into the parking structure. They didn't care I wasn't speeding or I'm a doc... so I spent many a mile with a cop up my but and my car locked into the posted limit with cruise control
.
But, I vote for the grey... it's understated, and makes the Evo MR look athletic without flash when parked. And when at speed, coming into the rear view mirror of soon-to-be prey, it looks evil... something wicked coming
.
Peace,

That's definitely British article. Steering wheel is on the left, use of Newtons instead of horsepowers. And GB gets the spec-c sti not us. Highly doubtful that we'll get the mr here in US, just like we never got the FQ. Certainly not any time soon. It's nice to dream though. It'd be nice though if dealers had this new turbo and shocks as install option. Otherwise it's aftermarket and warrranty out the windows.
Well, time will tell. But, I think that
, based on their financial situation, has to bring the MR. The Evo 8 is keeping sales afloat in the US. It's fan base knows the car exists. And moreover, they are willing to pay a relative premium to have it.... Think of all that aftermarket money going into
's pocket.
The cost to
is relatively minimal. The structure is the same, so crash worthiness is not an issue. The car has been developed and will pass emissions. So no further R&D is necessary
.
So, the reality is relatively simple.
needs to sell cars to survive in the
. It sells Evos. For minimal increase in cost in the base of the car, they can demand a premium by bringing the MR. Effectively a new car for nothing. The more MRs they sell, the more profits they make. Initially, they can apply it to the development and release of the Eclipse replacement. Then pay off there debt.
Also, if they win the next shout-outs against the definitely coming tuned WRX STi, they gain more publicity. People will come to their showrooms for something sporty, but a little more mundane... like a Galant , etc.
The formula works... look at Infiniti/Nissan and the Z/G35.
Now, if they can only offer 4wd and turbos in all their vehicles....

"definitely coming tuned WRX STi"
are you reffering to this?:
All models except rs switch to a drive by wire, electronically controlled throttle. All models with 4EAT except rs switch to a new direct control type transmission.
Sti will get aerodynamic underbody covers and a new helical limited slip front differential as well as a yaw rate sensor for the DCCD system.
also to receive suspension revisions as well as a new steering rack for improved driving performance.

OHhhhh gawwwwd here we go
Just started finalizing my modification plans...for the Evo I got a few weeks ago. Planned on huge mod path with turbo, heads, stroker kit, AEM EMS and all the frills that surround it.
Now I have a strong inkling to hold off a couple of months and see what the news on the MR will be. If we get a tougher drivetrain with 6 speed and SAYC, I'm going to have to have one. I love the grey anyway. This is a pain in the ****. Now I've got a wrench in all the works as that cash might be much better spent on one of the early MRs and building it instead. I want an MR. I just bought an Evo and I'm already looking to the MR. I need a rehab center....serious addiction beginning....ha..."beginning" yeah, right. I'm lost at this point. All of my cash is in terms of what it'll do to my evo and now I've got to watch the MR news like a stock market junkie.
MR-GSR...it's going to be in my dreams now...I'm totally f'd. I thought I was out of the loop if I just modded the cr*p outta this and would be happy for years to come.

No worries
Hey man,
The Evo 8 is an awesome car... and with all the mods you're planning, it's going to be bad-
. Plus, it'll be your own creation. I wouldn't sweat the MR coming... you'll have an awesome car. Period
. Plus, there is always something better bound to come, so you can never win. I think the MR issue is more for people waiting to buy an Evo... and unfortunately tempted by the revised STi on its way
.
2lame2slow - Do I think the proposes upgrades to the STi suspension (read Spec-C) will make it competitive? You bet...
The last EVO COY comparison pitted the Evo 8 FQ-300 against the WRX STi Spec-C (amoung other cars). In the the first round (which was non-exotics), it won, plus came in first, beating out even CAR COY, the Vauxhall VX220.
Seems like just what the doctor ordered for Subbie... and a potential coup that
has early warning of... hence the popular media word that the Evo MR is coming
.
I love that grey too...

Anyone going to the NY Autoshow? C&D's reporting that the MR will be featured and the announcement that almost everyone on evom is waiting for may come from there.
Could it be that
's allocation of 1,500 '04 Evo 8 units could be a sign wherein
is giving more emphasis/priority for a MR debute. Think about it. If they brought in more or the same number of non-RS/MR Evos in '04 they could be left idle as everyone gobbles up a MR. Heck I would if the price difference was just 5 grand.

I think that even though the Subaru might be more powerful, Mitsubishi shows that you don't need a ton of horse power to achieve great performance numbers. Mitsu knows how to maximize every ounce of out of the Evo.
Technically on "paper" the STi is supposed to hand the Evo it's a$$ but it just can't. And now the battle is going up a notch with the MR and the Spec-C. Even with the even bigger difference in horse power, I think that the Evo would still hold it's own against the Spec-C.
And even when and if those two cars come stateside, the decisions will still be the same i.e. brute force( spec-C) finesse(Evo) pain in the butt to mod(spec-C) mod galore (Evo) and of course which is more appealing to you. They are both bad a$$ cars that would eat up 90% of the American car market right out the factory anyway so let's just pray that they come

I used to buy and build 60's hot rods. Actually the car I drove before the EVO was a '66 Hemi Coronet. I thought that the days of the hot rod were over, and with the "arms race" that's going on now between the japanese car manufacturers it is painfully clear that the days of the hot rod are back and in a HUGE way!! I don't see how anyone on the planet can honestly say that this isn't the case. With the EVO, STI, American entrants like the SVT Cobra, Z06 and Viper, and of course the German and Italian models...this is an unbelievable time to be alive if you are an automotive enthusiast no matter what your budget is!!! Back in the 80's I used to tell my dad he was lucky that he was lucky he grew up when he did, and that I got the shaft because I missed the boat...I got off the phone with him a couple hours ago, and he pretty much said the reverse to me LOL!! He wishes he was 20 something again hehehe.
