Evolution MR - Mitsubishi Racing [MERGED]
quote:300lbs less weight from aluminum parts and a bigger turbo don't sound the least bit appealing to you?
hahaha
what does a bigger faster spooling turbo matter if everyone's planning to upgrade anyways?
300lbs weight reduction is nice though, but IMHO, it means nothing, and most people won't notice the difference. A well tuned car (suspension and engine/turbo) will not take 300lbs in account, unless you're planning on drag racing.
Whos gonna setup the evo as a drag race car anways... I assume people buy the evo to take advantage of the solid frame and handling right? If i planned to drag race a lot, i would of chose a supra TT as a better platform.

Aluminum parts? Nope. Don't really care THAT much about weight savings. I use my car as a track car/daily driver/fun car. This isn't a fully built drag or track car so i'm not extremely concerned to trade my car in for aluminum parts.
Bigger turbo? Absolutely not. I already have plans to upgrade to either a 50 trim, or a 3037 in the near future via Vishnu/Buschur/AMS turbo kits.
Like I said, the only thing that I care about really is the ACD, and that's only because of hearing so much garbage about transfer cases and such lately. I know it's a pretty localized problem affecting only a few owners, but it's still. I'm not about to take all of my mods off my car (i'm at nearly 350-360whp), sell my evo, and get a beefed up Evo with parts I honestly don't care about.
The MR is a great choice for people who'd like the extra options, or don't even have an evo right now. I'm happy with my Evo as it is

Better yet, keep all the nic creature comforts, Titanium exhuast, titanium strut bar, and remove a few things here and ther and 2950lb 280 hp evo with full warranty...
And for those that don't exist.. those that keep the stock turbo and want to make a few extra horspower, since *everyone* changes the turbo.. the MR Turbo, hopefully Ti, gives better spool, more torque, and weighs less.
An MR RS would be a weekend great track toy, but right now with Texas summer setting in, I'm starting to lean towards the MR GSR to take to the local circuits so I can survive the drive there and back.. May give up a .5 second on course, but at least I'll be more comfortable.. Until there is money waiting in the winner's circle, I'll keep the comfort...

Just a note about the feel of the 6 speed.
I've driven one and to be honest the feel of the 5 speed is better to me, its firmer and more notchy which I like. The 6 speed is quite soft compared to the 5 so it doesn't feel as 'sure' to me that i'm in the right gear.
Also I don't know where you guys are getting these big weight savings from, the MR is only like 20KGish lighter than the evo8 GSR.

with a ralliart twin plate clutch so it'll last for most people.
Actually I do remember that Top Gear video where that girl was commenting on how she didn't like the new 6 speed - seemed like it felt "unsure" and she was saying how she didn't really have a good feel for which gear she was putting it into.
