Evolution MR - Mitsubishi Racing [MERGED]
I hope to god that Mitsubishi doesn't put that god awful black fin and dark colored BBS wheels on the MR's over here. The red MR in R&T Speed looks lame the way they dressed it up. If they could keep the wing looking the way it does on the 03's and use a lighter color on the wheels then I'll be the first one on the block to throw down my deposit. Don't get me wrong, I do like all of the updates, just don't like the colors. As it stands now, I can't buy that car looking the way it does, at least not in red. The Grey looks a little better, but I don't want a Grey colored car. I think for the US market, Mitsubishi will have to be a little more generous in the color offerings. We need a blue MR over here, and the sides of the wing should at least match the body color. Paint over the damn carbon fiber, I don't care just don't make it look like I bought the damn wing at K-Mart and glued it on. That's how it looks in the mag. I think we all feel the same way even if were so jazzed about the rest of the upgrades we aren't admitting it.
If you read our report on Mitsubishi’s 2004 Evolution MR (AW, Feb. 23), you’re ahead of the curve. None other than Mitsu U.S. chief Finbarr O’Neill confirms the Subaru WRX STi Spec C-fighter will arrive on our shores by fall. The MR (for Mitsubishi Racing) comes with a six-speed manual tranny, active center differential, better medium-to-high-rpm power and substantial weight reductions by using aluminum wherever possible. Look for the U.S. version to start around $31,000.

Oh totally agreed. If I'm payin 30k I dont want to look like APC built my car. However I probably speak for a lot of people that they grey and wheels are quite hot and make us drool. That rear window thing looks dangerous - what if I slip walking to my car and stab out my eye???
Actually I like the black sides on the rear wing and the voertex generator. It says function of appearance. It's like the grille in hood. Old school Cowl inductions. It says, I mean business and am I am not here to look pretty for you. I'm here for the driver. Everyone else be damned and step aside, Muahahaha!
Bring on all the goods that make it better, each and every one..
Can we get some downforce generating side wings on the mirrors and along the doors like F1 cars as well, heh.

i had a 3G eclipse before the Evo, and it was a very fine car... never had one single problem with it... but, i was disappointed that Mitsu abandoned the 1 and 2G's better performance and went for a more plush car and the V6 to try and get the older crowd interested. Man, I hope they won't do the same thing to the Evo in the future, but I doubt they will... Mitsu is smart enough not to screw up the Evo, at least I hope.
Before anyone asks, I have searched this entire thread for it (I've read every post since the first as well), but where was it mentioned that the MR if it's coming would lack SAYC or would make it an additional option? Curious minds want to know.
And yes, I'd gladly pay for it if it was an option. I intend on bringing this car to Devens and NHIS, and truthfully, it won't hurt when we get pounded with snow.

called Mitsu MMUSA today 04' evo/mr info
I got fed up with the lack of information from my dealer regarding 04' EVO 8's and the upcoming MR, so I went on a mission today and basically forced my way into the marketing department at MMUSA and got SOME additional info. Some we already knew and some that I can at least confirm. It took me three separate people to even get started. The first person spent 15 minutes surveying me about what I drove, where I was from, what models I was interested etc.... He then said he would forward a catalog and notify the dealer in my area of my interest! I had to politely explain that if my dealer knew anything I wouldn't have had to call him in the first place! He finally snapped to and said, "let me get you another person" 10 more minutes on hold and the second person that picked up was a "vehicle case manager" I had to tell the whole story again(knowing I was talking to the wrong person) only to be forwarded to a third person named Melinda in marketing. I spent 15 minutes talking to her and this is the overview:
1. 04' EVO 8's have been in production for 4 months
2. They will be released 3-5 months late because of 03' stock
3. MM of Japan has not given MMUSA a release date on the MR
4. She did indicate that YES the MR is going on sale in the U.S.
5. She indicated that it probably will arrive late by 3-5 months and
and not be sold until 05'.
6. The MSRP on the MR will not be set until it ships to the USA
7. She was aware of the SPEED article on the MR and said it was
NOT official.
8. I asked her if she was aware that the MR was on their website
and she said yes, but it really wasn't a press release-
9. She called the RS the new "base model" saying they are now
available.
10. She told me to call her back in 2-3 months-
The bottom line is MM of Japan really holds all the keys in this deal. As we all have figured out already The MR is coming and that is all we can bank on. I also assume they are not selling EVO 8's at the rate they would like. I also was able to get a fax number(from the first person) that goes directly to MM headquarters in Japan. He indicated that they would definitely respond back. If anybody wants to give it a go here is the number.

I gave it my best shot lads, I hope it helps some-

Give you props for trying to get additional info
Did you ask her why
put that little blurb about the MR on their press release site?
Why not just come out with a detailed press release cause it's just driving everyone insane trying to speculate this and that this and that
