I'm just saying because Mitsu is releasing the Eclipse with the supposed hybrid sort of engine for teamed with the 4G63 maybe. Point being....It's going to have a lot of hp and AWD. Why would they want to have two of the same cars going at once? Believe me, I want to have the Evo's stay for a while over here. But "What If"? It'd be more of a strategic move for Mitsubishi to limit the production of the evo's so that people will want to buy them and keep them. Soon they'll become like Syclone/Typhoons, Turbo Buicks, so on and so forth. Granted there are more Evo's then the two kind of vehicles combined...but it's the limited availibility.

And to agree with Mister 2zx3. I too will be waiting JUST a little bit to find out the bugs/if any from the new MR. Can't wait though....I really really can't.

Evos are rare cars everywhere. Only about 52k lancer Evos exist worldwide. That is about 6 weeks of Honda Civic production. 6500 cars spread around the US is not many cars. In CA which counts for 1/3 of the overall US market, I see a few.

Man... you must want cruise control really badly. Is it really that big of a deal?

Somehow I just see it highly unlikely that we'll be getting it. The Evo has never seen cruise control, and will most likely will not. It probably won't get a factory SMT option either. Remember that these cars are still being used in GroupN.

Since we don't have any hard confirmations from Mitsubishi in the US, what do you all think about the MR in the UK http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/evolution/range.asp

It looks like the MR's that the UK gets come in a 300, 320, and 340 HP versions. Car and Driver is claiming only 285 HP for ours. OK, I can understand we loose some HP due to emissions. Does that mean that what we are getting is closer to the MR-FQ300 ? What are they doing differently to the MR- FQ340 in order to get 342 HP out of it? Is there a chance we may also get different versions of the MR with varying amounts of HP? Also, the MR-FQ300 posts a 0-62 time of 4.8 sec. So how is our 285 HP version going to make a 0-60 run in 4.3 sec as C&D claims? This doesn't seem to make sense. I doubt our MR will be noticeably faster than the current US EVO. I don’t want to open up a can of worms here, but is C&D blowing smoke up our a$$ or what?

FQ series is just what CCC the UK importer does to them after they enter the country. They are not Mitsu factory models. They can bypass emission in the UK that way. It also keeps the factory warrantee.

The VIII is the first truly official Evo sold in the UK. All the other were under SVA or other importation schemes.

Man, lots of animosity on the site... what gives?

We all love the Evo, and those of us who have one and want an MR, so be it.

Others, like me, who have been waiting and now are in the position to buy a new car will wait for the MR... because we lucked out time wise and we can afford it ... no slam on those who can't.

Those who still need to wait to buy an Evo, may luck out and get the Evo 9... which will come, have no fear .

For all of you harping on sales of the Evo... I recommend doing some research, If you did, you would realize that Evo sales accounted for a majority of last quarter of '03 and this year's first quarter...

THE EVO HAS KEPT of alive.

In fact, this has been recognized by buisness journals and car mags alike.

So, less negaitive energy and more good karma .

Peace,
g

The HP numbers for the U.S. version of the MR aren't official, although per the SPEED article, it will be more than the present Evo 8 .

Why will the Evo 9 come? Well:

1. needs the image and will develop the car regardless.
2. is redefining their image. The next generation Colt will be offered in an Evo form as well. I'll expect the same for the Eclipse.
3. It would be customer suicide not to... their most loyal fans would be sitting on a 2year old car that is effectively dead. Not smart. needs us.

And yeah cruise control is nice to keep the piggies off your a**, and points off the liscense. But there are aftermarket options available .

Cruise control? LOL, its a performance car, not a luxury sedan. Whats next? some air conditioned seats so you don''t get too hot? maybe an automatic so you dont have to be bothered with all that shifting? hehe, what wusses

IF you really want Cruise it's an hour job to install.

As for the SAYC and SACD not being installed...that would mark up the price sooooooo much. It wouldn't sell over here. Probably more towards the 40k range which, IMO, I would be getting something other than an Evo.

The Evo 9...

Mitsubish has gotten along fine without having the Evo over here in the U.S. market. They have other cars and now SUV's to make the U.S. Mitsu market flourish. But like i said...the Eclipse is coming out with stuff that will be a toss up between the Evo and the Eclipse. Let's not forget that the Eclipse was the FIRST Performance car mitsu released...I used to have a 1990 Eclipse GSX with AWD and Turbo. It had leather, cruise control, sun roof, all those pleasentries.

I highly highly doubt the 9 will happen. Mitsu just got back into the WRC with the 8 being modified, why would mitsu want to release ANOTHER evo, and make their WRC car over again.

foooooood for thouuuuuuuught

I just wanted people's experience with their evo's. Therefore, I am requesting evo owners to post problems with their car, and how they would rate the reliablilty of the evo's.
I am really confused because some people say that mitsubishi are reliable cars, but others have terrible experiences with this manufacturer.
By the way, I could still name four dealers in los angeles area that still have evo's on their lot. One dealer is selling its yellow evo for 7000 under window. The dealer claims that it has not test-driven and has low miles. Not BAd.

Still loving my '90 GSX. Too bad the sporty image of the Eclipse was forever tarnished by the 3G -- cheap, ugly, naturally-aspirated, torque-steer PoS. We'll see what performance the 4G brings, but my guess is that it will continue to appeal to the poseur, ostrich leather, tuner crowd who value decibels over horsepower. The EVO will remain the uncompromising driver's car. And, as long a Subaru continues to sell an STi Stateside, there's hope Mitsubishi will bring us new EVO models.

While I am hoping finances will work out for me to get an EVO this year, I must respond to the 3g eclipse comment. I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T (made by in Ill) basically an eclipse with a dodge badge and a bigger rear end. Performance wise, it is just shy of an older v8 Mustang. Not super, but not bad. Torque steer? Surely you jest. I have 70k miles and have NEVER experienced the like. It is a fine car. The Mitsu brakes are the only complaint, and aftermarkets took care of that. The eclipse 3g club has over 8 thousand loyal fans. Many of them also bought EVO's or sold their Eclipse's for EVO's. I think you don't really have an accurate picture of the 3g.

The 3g is a decent sports car that could have been much more sporty. Good build quality, plenty of performance parts, and easy to mod make it a fine daily driver to a high performance car like the EVO. Just my 2 cents.

Peace
