E85 Rundown?

OK, I searched and looked through 4 pages and really didnt get my answer. I am basically asking what benefits you get from running e85? What is needed to switch over? I have been hearing so many guys switching over to e85, it just seems like something is working well with it, I figured I might want to join.

Thanks for the help

Benefits are very straight forward.

1) Its like running race gas for pump gas prices
2) High HIGH boost can be run with minimal risk of detonation
3) Cooler fuel temps make the power

Cons minimal:

1) Need to upgrade fuel system
2) Hard to find gas stations in some states
3) About 2-5% increase in fuel costs per mile

Interesting notes:

Usually people up the boost which means spending coin on an upgraded intercooler. Likewise at high boost levels you may find that to get above 450whp you will need a double pumper. I also noted that my fun factor went WAY up .

yep, cheaper than pump gas, higher effective octane rating than pump gas, burns cooler = higher boost, more aggressive timing etc. can be utilized with reduced chance of detonation compared to pump gas.

When you say upgrade fuel system. What are we talking? Injectors, double pump possibly, FPR?

Depends on the need but bigger injectors are always a must unless you have substantial injectors already. If e85 is to be a permanent solution I do suggest going with the largest injectors that can comfortably run pump gas for backup like 1200cc's or perhaps one of the blue max sets.

The double pumper requirement seems to be a function of horsepower once the car reaches 420whp it seems as though the fuel system starts to suffer from pressure loss even with a walbro. Its suggested by 450whp you will need the double pumper to have adequate fueling.

I haven't seen a need to run a FPR on my personal car but a fuel rail at some of the highest horsepower levels does appear to help.

Thanks man. Basically, I want to get a FP red. I see a lot of guys running the red with pump gas and e85. I would like to get around 400-420 awhp if I could. The one concern I have is, say I get the car tuned at 425awhp on 93 octane. Is that to a limit that if I were to pick up a bad tank of gas and run the car the on the same amount of boost that it was tuned on, it could potentially screw things up?

Do you run into this problem with E85? As far as, running 425awhp on E85 with a red, is that a risky daily setup?

Im guessing from what I read, that e85 is basically safer, so I would say yes, right?

Another thing, How does the switch affect the ecu? Is it something that the ecu adapts to till I could get a tune? Im guessing not. Or would I basically need to be at a shop for first startup to get thing tuned right away?

Thanks for your patience and info!

Thats what i'm running myself with basically a bone stock evo that see's boost anywhere from 27-30psi depending on heat of the day. I do go a little lean at this power level and i can tell its my walbro trying to get pressure I plan on personally getting a double pumper for safety.

If you get a bad tank of gas meaning you get more gas than ethanol the car will run rich and probably still be safe but i wouldn't suggest pushing it. If money isn't too big a concern I suggest one of those ethanol analyzers so you know when to keep it easy.

Cool man thanks for the help. I am opnly shooting for around 420 just cause i'm still on stock motor. So I shouldnt need the double pump assembly yet then. I will definitely upgrade my fuel and slap a red on. I will also go for some other bolt ons as well.

Thanks for the help!
