T28 Turbo Build

Ok so after doing my research, I have decided i need forced induction. I have read through post after post of 16g kits making good power in relation to our baselines, but me being the person I am would really like to do something outside the norm. I have been considering buying demon_ni2's old kit made by q@evopowermods but I worry that i will wreck my motor with the 60 trim turbo before i can get it fully built. I am also considering building a kit around a T28 using a ram horn setup like senate6268's. What are your guys thoughts? Any and all advice is welcome and much appreciated.

The reason so many people have opted to go the 16G6 route is due to the availability of quality used parts from Evo for low prices. This has allowed everyone to build their turbo kits for less than the name brand kits. The 16G6 turbo isn't exactly an entry level turbo either. It makes good power and 7-10psi on a stock motor and really comes alive at 18-20psi on a built motor. You could potentially hit 400hp on a 16G6 if you really maximize airflow and have a good tune. It could be your first and only turbo setup on your motor, even after being built.

But if you are set in building a kit outside the norm, then you should be ready for the costs that come along with it. A manifold will run you in the neighborhood of $900+, depending on the shop. Your car might also be down for a bit of time as they will need it available for fab and fitment of the manifold and other components.

So it depends on how much money you want to spend, how much work you plan on doing yourself, how much custom work you want done, etc.

any turbo setup under 10psi on our motors is safe with a good tune, but it also depends on how you tend to drive the car also. if you want to race the car, you will break something, how often and how hard you actually push the car will determine on how often you break and how much down time the problem causes.
my setup at 7psi made right at 200hp, and lasted me about 6 months before i got bored of it and started uppin the boost. and every time i break. ive upgraded a few parts, and pushed more boost, broke something else, fixxed it and upgraded a few more parts, and pushed more boost.
there is alot of time and work that goes into building your own kit. if thats what you want, go for it, i donno what you want long term for your car or what kinda goals you want to hit with it.

Exactly, pretty much any amount of power you could want to push can be had with the 16G turbo setup, its our engine that hinders this. Give it better flow and stronger parts and 300-400hp is a go I think if you want to run more than that get something easier to handle that amount of power. As for me Im sticking with my lancer... that is until I can afford my supra woohoo!!! lol

i had about 3 paragraphs of nasty comments about 16g turbos, but i deleted it and posted this instead.

"y would u use a garbage tiny turbo to boost a car, when a real turbo is only a small price difference: didnt you want to make real power when you spent 2grand or more to turbo your car?"

Yes I have evo 9 IC and pipes and evo 8 turbo, the only thing is the Jpipe on the evo 8 turbo is alot bigger, I went down to home depot and got an adapter from the plumbing section 2" to 1 1/2" worked great for me

if you are using home depot black rubber plumbing fittings you have a boost leak problem , those are not good enough for aboost past 1psi Trust me I tried... When you buy couplers and clamps do it right the first time and buy t bolt clamps and silicone couplers...
