Err, that filter isnt coming out. Ours is a metal screen. Not really a changeable filter per say. There is a thread about it in tranny tech and the guy ended up finding out the hard way. If you were to proceed to get that screen replaced youre going to want to take it to a shop. Unless youre skilled in auto tranny repair I'd advise against it. The screen is deep inside the tranny and by time the guy got to it he was in over his head.

The original guy

A little for detail as to why you might not want to do it yourself

I just finished reading those threads since it was so dead at work. Just gonna do a flush and fluid replacement. Gonna have a shop do the flush just because it is the first time it will have one.

Another reason Im glad I have a manual trans lol. RyanCB and myself broke open his trans recently to replace the ISB and its so much simpler ie 1 input shaft 1 ouput shaft 1 differential and a couple shift forks. Piece of cake :-)

tell me about it. Auto trannys suck to work on. We replaced my mother's in law when I put the turbo on the car and it was a pain. Did the tranny for a fellow lancer owner with a manual and it was easy.

why go to the dealer to get the fluid? thats just stupid and a waste of money......there are better products out there that do the same thing and last/work better like the ams oil universal synthetic....

i used to run the gm syncromesh in my 03 $17 a quart. found the part number, we had it on the shelf in a penzoil or $10 a quart where i work. $7 difference adds up quick.....

Stupid ? Its Auto Btw
Im pretty sure when a team of engineers found that fluid being best for the transmission it wasn't stupid . Thats the only thing i run and i have still yet to see a full street trim full weight stock block Lancer run as fast as me on the track and I'm only on 10Psi I'm pretty sure i know what I'm talking about ...

ummmm... my t3/t4 setup lasted 2 years.. and was running faster :P (full interrior, weight, stock motor, and dailyin it)

And.. Stick to max life dex merc. it exceeds the diamond sp stuff.

dont waste ur time with the filter either. u have to remove the bellhousing to replace it. if u do that. might as well go pick up an alto crack pack(70$) and the seals(230) cuz ur bound to break one and be up a crick. basically all new trans then. and its not that hard.. just takes a while to put back together.

I really should do a How to on 'How to rebuild our auto trans'. but i dont know what i did with all the pictures i took when i was trashing my basement.. LOL.

been there, done that.. trans works great! and im well exceeding the capabilities of it with minor upgrades

the trans (mechanical side) is easy to rebuild.. pretty common sense. just alot of pieces.. the front controller does require calibrating/lineingup, so dont mess with it unless someone explains to u how to line everything up. IPT guilded be on the phone, and it was, well.. hard for me to even explain.

But you also ran slicks ....
I was saying full street mode ...
Im sure my current set up would also run high 12's if it stuck . Current 60 foots are 2.3 and picking up 27mph in the backhalf , since theres no traction first or second ..

yes i know its auto thats why i recommended the amsoil universal synthetic.

if your going to pay that much at the dealer for fluid, i would put amsoil in it instead.

castrol and others make atf thats a lot cheaper than the dealers price, and can be gotten at any autoparts store.

i persoanlly have 3 different options for fluid on the shelf at work that would work for the diamond sp whatever number it requires and its a lot less than dealer price. im just saying why pay the dealer, when your local auto parts store has it on the shelf?

doesnt really count, they were 22x8s and were only for 2 passes till i popped the 3rd motor. pretty sure my street tire time was a 13.1 or 13.2 dont remember what we got it down to on those falken rt615 205/50/15 tires, use to have it posted. but my big tires have gone along way now also, and there street tires(DRs, but still street legal) 2nd n 3rd are tons better with the few extra mph in each gear and better traction 235/65/15s are the way to go for anyone wantin a true street beast. no traction issues, but plenty of fitment issues.

it seems its about that time where many things start going bad. I just had to replace the coils with some newer/used ones I had in my room from another motor. I had to limp it home today because I got the cylinder 2 misfire code. New plugs, cables, and coils and fired right up.

I feel like many little things are starting to happen now which of course is expected with the mileage it has had. Most parts are starting to get to the end of their life. Good thing I got taxes done today.

You're not the only one with a bunch of little problems. It keeps making me want to get a new car but since the lancer is paid off; ehh...

oh I'm not thinking of getting a new car. If I do it will be to put this one of the road so I really make changes to it.

I love my little lancer and being paid off adds to that too. Everyone else hates it though because of the little problems it starting to show.

neither was i but the reliability issue was the biggest thing for me. all the little issues i had with the lancer and now having the wrx they have all gone away ( remeber also that its an 02 with now 180k and turboed from the factory to the 03 lancer with 130k and an aftermarket turbo...)

i also thought that i could keep both. well the lancer is long gone and the wrx prevails...
