Best intake so far..
How about Andy's custom SRI? That would get my vote for creativity and function combined.
Kareem, with that filter being more forward on the Typhoon, you have better options for funnelling air. I just can't leave well enough alone

cai!
woo gonna get my aem cai soon... but.. i dont know if im going to notice anything in performance.. or will i?? cause i already have a straight pipe and i re-did the 2 1/4 piping to a straight -thru powerflow muffler O_o
edit: did i say straight pipe.. i meant "test pipe"

Hey guys,
Don't forget about us. We have a short ram style filter kit. The filter is a cotton mesh funnel ram style. Chromed ends, comes with a mandrel bent gloss black powder coated pipe, couplings and clamps for only $160. Import Tuner ran a test on our NT Lancer parts and gained 3 hp.
Give us a call if you are interested.
Thanks,
David Buschur

about 1/2 the entries in here had not even installed an intake prior to posting something. bunch of post ******.
has anyone done a legit comparison on one vehicle comparing different intakes........?

Ok check this out. I am shooping cai and sri. I went to a local shop they dont carry AEM so I was looking at the K&N, They want 470.00 on that and it is only sri. Are they trying to rape me or does any one know if this a sweet setup. Regardless it is still only sri.

so which ones have YOU used?
how big of gains did you notice? and in what areas?
what other set up options do you have, and where there any differences in alternate set ups between comparisons?
what was the O.A. temp for each of your tests?
sorry, ain't rich enough to have dyno sheets or anything like that. my impressions of temperature was done by the ol "run it hard and then touch the filter and piping right after you park." believe me, the difference in temp is there. and in sri setups, you can't run away from sucking in air at engine bay temps. also a bit of the "butt dyno."
i've so far have had 3 different setups:
1) K&N 3000GT/stealth FIPK part number 57-1500-1
2) RMR sri with heatshield connected to stock ram air snorkel
3) AEM CAI
the kinds of things i do before checking the filter and piping: run uphill on twisties usually above 3k rpms for about 8 miles and highway runs from 30mph-90mph.
the 3000GT FIPK had no heatshield. it was just a filter and adapter from K&N. this meant it sits where the stock airbox is. not good at all. what really told be about engine bay temps was that the top of the filter was made of aluminum. after a fun run, the filter was too hot to touch. something you'd play hot potato with. thats pretty damn hot. sure, when you just start your car it'll feel peppy, but it goes away all too soon. after a while of driving, you really notice the pep is all gone.
the rmr intake i really liked. it actually keeps its pep. the heatshield does a damn good job. the filter also has an aluminum piece on top so that was the first thing to check. its always room temp to luke warm. a BIG difference from the 3kgt kit. also, where the stock ram air piece connects to the heatshield, that part of the filter was cold. like base setting refridgerator cold. about 2.5" diameter area of that side of the filter. at least you know you're getting cold air.
the aem was a bit different. to me, it felt like it smoothened out the powerband. no matter what, there seems to be this dip of power at 4k rpm, but there's a bit of power before the dip that i didn't feel with the rmr. i thought it felt a bit peppier in the lower rpms but retained power up high like the rmr. i used to say that you might have lost some hp up high with the aem, but i then began to think that maybe having a more linear hp curve would actually make you think that since there isn't a steep jump in hp as before, so i'm not too sure. but i doubt any loss. heat shouldn't be much of a concern. it seems that aem powdercoats the piping. its always lukewarm also. and just because its lukewarm on the outside doesn't mean its lukewarm on the inside. because of thickness of the aluminum and the powdercoat, the inside will be some odd degrees lower than the outside surface temp. with the filter sitting in the front bumper hole, i liked this setup best.
this might be a meaningless post since i use my hands to tell temp and the use of my "butt dyno", but score one for my post counts!
oh, and if anyone knows how to rig something up to read temps at different parts of the engine bay, hook me up with a link or info or something. thanks...
