Best intake so far..
I had a room mate that was BIG into the turbo Regal scene and he actually pulled a high beam headlight out and fabricated a cold air inlet right there. It looked awkward at first but once you knew what it was for it was cool. It was an 87 T-Type 3.8 v6.
what woud be the difference between Trance's set up and having a ram air hood on top?
do you think the air would be colder coming off the top since it did not have to run throught the engine bay.
what i was thinking about was getting the VIS evo 7 hood and a SRI but building a box (much like the heat shield box) but having it sit flush against the hood around the vent on the driver's side.
i like the the piping idea that Trance did, but if he is going to put a scoop on there what is he going to do piping? could it be used to aid in the cooiling of the engine bay?

I think that it would be ideal to do what you say, having a hood scoop/duct with an ecnlosure around the SRI filter. Since I can not use alternate hoods in my racing class, I plan on using the "Trance setup", which is ducting air from the side grill(s) or from underneath the car. I doubt the air will heat up much as it rushes past the engine (and Trance uses insulated race car ducting), but I do think the hood duct would be more preferable.

the "trance setup"...i like that
as for the piping i'm getting done is just to replace the flex hosing i have now to allow smoother air flow.
as to the engine bay temp effecting the piping...
if you saw myold setup i had the hose from the passanger side going across the entire front of the bay...now i redid some work and no more is the big hose a prob, it now goes from the passanger duct under the car in the inside of the lower bumper so now all you see in the engine bay is the hose comeing from the 2 duct unions to the RMR heatshield...less than 2 feet of hose in the bay.
if anything the flow from the ducts is actually cooling the intake a bit since the RMR intake filter is exposed...so with colder air being forced in it is pusshing the hotter air in the engine bay out of the way since the outlet is only inches from the filter.
also since more colder air is being forced into the engine bay from a stock or anyother setup the flow of air in the bay is greater so it may also be cooling the entire bay as well(prob not noticable but some cooling being done)
being that i have a automatic and my options are few i am doing what i can to better a allready good product
also...i am not big on big scoops and such on hoods...if i was to do anthing i would prob get the RRM intake duct and have it custom molded into the hood...prob wont though...be too much $$ to mold it clean to the hood

there are hood scoops and hood vents. i personally don't like hood scoops, but they do what they're supposed to. especially if feeding into an enclosed intake box(best idea). they would force cold air into the engine bay and lower bay temps also if you've got more than one scoop, but they look too tacky for me. trance has insulated ducting so engine bay temps don't matter. what does concern me would be turbulence in the air box. we use a karman vortex air sensor so air would have to be straightened before entering the sensor. some say it doesn't matter, but then it has been mentioned by k&n. thats why they use an oval cone instead of a round cone air filter(on older dsms, but not on their lancer typhoon intake for some reason?). some cone filters claim to produce a vortex within the filter to better airflow, but it is detrimental in our case. but i think the gains would make the concern negligible. it's just me because i don't usually like to compromise inefficencies.
a hood vent would rather suck air out of the engine bay because the faster moving air over the hood sucks out the slower hot air within the bay. it would probably suck colder air from under the car. still a good idea, but not as beneficial as the scoop.
and if i remeber right, the evo 7 intake duct is far from any intake location for the lancer. it's not even used on the any of the evos since they have their intake duct in the same place as ours. the box is gonna be some weird *** shape.

well what i was gonna try to put together would be kind of like the 1969 RAM air IV on the GTO was going to build a shroud around the intake that would sit flush with the hood when closed.
if the EVO 7 intake is not in the correct location..........what would my options be?
I know some scoops and vents are fugly and not functional, but a functional scoop that produced good results would fall under the "beauty in the eye of the beholder"
what i might do is get a stock oem hood that i can bastardize and actually check functionality. I do not want to mess with my OEM hood, nor do i want to jack up a CF hood if the gains are not that great.

Short Ram Intake and Exhaust(Muffler only)
I wanna add some roar to my little Lancer ES so i plan on getting the short ram intake and muffler on ebay do you guys think my lancer will sound mean? Also will it help or worsen my gas milliage
Things is
Why pay like 120 dollars for basically the same function, as i see it its just the filter and the adapter thingy later on ill just switch the ebay filter with an hks filter. Also does anyone have the ebay short ram intake? If you do tell me about it thx.
