Personally, I have never seen the tranny mount. Adam or I have to ask Nick to take a pic or get an approx of it being off.

Remember the immobilizer. W/o it, that motor won't run, just like those RSX engines.

Adam,
Which P/S assembly did you use? The G93 sits closer to the motor than the G94.

OK, since I have tried to read through this zoo of a thread let me make a statement or two. First, Adam, thanks for coming on board and letting some disbelievers know it is possible. Also, their might be some confusion for some people who dont know any better about the 4G64 motor. And I am sure I speak for many here in saying it is good to learn more and more about the cars in general. Just having someone say it will work and not understanding why isnt really productive. SO, here is 4G64 class 100 for most of you (college class label joke...haha). OK, the G64 has been used in the Galant for a while and also used in the 96-99 Eclipse GS spyder. It has also been in the 2000-newer Eclipse and Galant. The motor in the 2000-Eclipse/Galant is the only one that will work because the orientation of the motor is the same as the Lancer. (basically means the timing belt is on the passenger side and not the drivers side.)

OK, the reason why I suggested this swap to begin with was after I looked under the hood of teamnexusoz I noticed it looked identical to my 2000 Eclipse RS. I think if you can find the motor for say $600, this swap is worth EVERY PENNY. $900 isnt that bad, but I would look a little more.

OK, now the thing I would look into a little more before you start tearing cars apart

1. intake manifold on the lancer bolting up to the 4G64 head. (that would save a lot of time and effort if it does.) If not, how easily does everything else wire up?

2. will the Lancer transmission bolt up to the 4G64 motor? That again saves time and $$$ if there is no modding needed here. IE, no swapping axles, wheel hubs, nothing.

3. exhaust manifold and downpipe fitting properly to exhaust. MINIMAL PROBLEM but somehitng to check into. OK this motor wont perform like the mivec, but it will do MUCH better than the motor that is in the Lancer now. I have driven the car and it needs this motor. (or something??)

Also for turbo later, the 4G64 is easy to turbo charge as the exhaust manifold from the turbo Eclipse bolts right up...but thats a whole nother can o worms!!

So Rigo, let us know when you are gonna try...lol.

The G64 2g eclipse spyder has a gen 1 motor which has the t-belt on the opposite side. It's the same for the galant until +99.

Head swap = hybrid between the same engine family.

1) Won't bolt up. Despite the motor looking similar. Both are different engine block family.

2) Since the 3g eclipse RS/GS use the same tranny as the G93 & G94, it should fit. Again, our starter is on the block while the G64 is on the tranny. I don't know what or how Nick was able to jerryrig around this problem.

As for the axles, it'll be real close. On the 1.5L, the axles were swapped. No one with a G93 followed this path yet, except the 4g mirage.

3) the engine bay dimension between a mirage to lancer is a bit different. Mirage is more square-ish while the lancer is more rectangular in shape. On the mirage, the exh mani is close to the rad fan (will find pics on the swap), and its intake mani cleared our firewall.

well mike it sounds good...as soon as we can confirm that the tranny will bolt up and its not gonna cost $1200 for a new tranny then ill start looking for the motor...i was actually thinking of getting a pure japanese motor since they seem to be a lilttle stronger than ours

You know, I hope you're right. If you can pull this off, it'd be pretty cool, but, I still say that chances are, it's not going to be cost-effective.

There is no equivalent of the G64 in JPN since they love small displacement and gimmicky valvetrain.

The G63 is all you get in JPN, and there isn't any other variation off it, besides in the US.

if you are looking for a 4G64 motor you MIGHT get lucky on the 3g Eclipse website

neweclipse.org

who knows it could happen.

if you are SERIOUS they have 3 or 4 on ebay RIGHT NOW that are all under $700 shipped. There is even an ECU for sale with the "buy it now" at $199.

Stock ecu shouldn't even be that high in price when a stock redtop SR20DET costs under 100 bucks.

Hey Rigo, when you are serious and we iron out the details I would be happy to lend you a pair of hands to get dirty. Hell, together we should be able to knock this out pretty quick...if it goes smoothly. I am assuming that you have wrenched before. If not, I will have to get real dirty...lol.

I'm going to voice my opinion again. If you're talking about putting in the whole front clip of an eclipse, why not go with a 4G63, or the 3.0L V6? Now that would be impressive.

okay I'm getting super rediculously confused.

We're all on about the "4G63" engine mojo. But isn't like 1/2 of the mistu cars on the production line using this motor and getting a way different HP output.

I mean, what I'm trying to ask is.

Is the 4G63 motor for the EVO VIII the exact same as the 4G63 on the AWD eclipse? or is there different variations of this motor? (that makes the EVO VIII alot better than the motor off of the eclipse from the year 1670?... They've been making this engine for years from what I've gatherd)
