I would advise you to read the above posts. I'm not the only one that believes that a whole front clip will be necessary.

I did not say that just I/H/E would garner 40 hp. However, that coupled with some tuning, and perhaps a new cam may garner about 150. MAYBE. However, I'm saying that you'll be paying less/equal, have the conveinence and reliability, and less headaches. That's just my 2 cents. Please don't get hostile, because look, I'm not the only one that thinks that this swap will be more trouble than it's worth.

as long as the motor is as old as your car (an '02 4G64 motor in an '02 lancer) you'll be within legal bounds. once you take an engine older than your car model year, then you're breaking laws. at least in california.

wasnt getting hostile. I hear what you are saying, but I just dotn think 150hp is really possible without tearing the motor apart. And yeah, as long as the motor is the same year or newer you are perfectly legal. (But the motors look identical so you would have to give the cop a HUGE reason to check on engine numbers) No you dont have to re-register the engine.

honestly, i wouldn't think a cop would know just by looking at it. but if he's being a dick and did check, then you'd have to go to a referee or traffic court to get it checked out. what would give it away would be the custom exhaust work you did cuz the stock one didn't bolt up and you didn't have a heat shield to cover up the custom work. also the engine code is stamped on the engine as well as the firewall so if they don't match up. . .

so legally, you would need a 4G64 out of the eclipse 2002+ or whatever year your lancer is. if you do go through with a legal swap, remember to keep the papers in the car proving what year it's from.

i've never really looked at where engine mounts are, but if they're on the block, having a 4G64 swap opens the doors for a 63/64 hybrid. basically a 2.4L 4G63 head/4G64 block. honestly, i don't know anything about it. only heard about it.

If you're talking 150 whp, then, of course, no. 150 crank hp... now that I think could be possible for around 900-1000, which is marginally more than this swap is being discussed for. What are the baseline dynos for this swap? I mean, what is the whp for the 4G64 Eclipse w/out MIVEC?

Joined this post late, so I will just drop my 2 psi worth and go.

I had spoken to Nick, the guys in South Florida, in length about this swap for my 4G93, as I was considering doing it, and I had found a complete motor with 18K miles for 350 bucks. However, I was already knee deep in 4G93 parts so it was not financially feasible to do it. You do NOT need the full front clip to do the swap. Possibilities of hybrids exist. There is a Mirage running around with a 2.4L 4G63, even tho it is the previous generation of our cars. It is possible because Nick confirmed (and I saw it with my own eye) the Evo manifold bolts up to the 4G64 block easily, as does the head.

If anyone is going to do a swap, I would advise this swap. Like I said, I explored it extensively and was I -- I <------ that close to doing it but I was already nose deep in Mirage parts, including rods and pistons on the way and it would not have been financially feasible to do it.

Honestly, I think there is an Ego thing involved with some people and there new cars. Doing swaps in Mitsu's has never really been a huge deal cuz the motor used to be a lot more difficult to swap out. Now most of them are built on the same platform, much like Honda and Nissan and a few others I am sure, so getting more bang out of the motor is totally possible. I think we should just put the naysayers to rest by getting dirty and doing the swap ourselves man. I would think that 150WHP out of the 4G64 would rock. I had CAI, exhaust, cam in my Eclipse and it was great. The Lancer should be better since I would assume the car is lighter. And to comment about the manifold thing, I think the reference he was making was to whether you can turbo the 4G64 easily with the exhaust manifold off the turbo Eclipse. the answer to that is yes, the exhaust ports are the same on the 4G64 and the 4G63T so bolting the turbo manifold does work. As far as getting a exhaust manifold that will go on the car with the lancer exhaust and the Eclipse engine, we would use the stock Eclipse exhaust manifold with a little fitment alteration under the car at an exhaust shop. (If needed at all) Shouldnt be too difficult at all.
