Here's another one from the last gen Celica. I don't know much about Toyo's R&D work.

I do believe the lancer ecu has a built-in safety for richness (should be enough to compensate - Mitsu is always conservative, even on DSMs) while the SI and ITR are programmed to the razor's edge on the performance envelope from the factory.

One thought immediately comes to mind after reading last nights posts.

Rob - I am sorry if I or any of us have offended you. We are not at all knocking you. It's just that many of us had no idea we'd have anything to worry about, so there's a lot of surprised folks. That is all. You seem very defensive, and we're not trying to attack you.

I don't know how this is all going to turn out. If I do in fact get mine installed, I have arranged for dynoing. So I would have hard evidence of what's the story. But that would be a while, if it does happen. So we'll just have to see. In the meantime, I'll be interested to see if anyone can get them in and how the tuning process goes.

Nobody should blame RRM for the problems involved with swaping the pistons in our motors. This mod is not just bolt-on, it may work without any tuning but it may work even better with one. RRM is giving us all the info about what to do to make things work. I am willing to spend extra $200.00 just to make this mod work at its peak performance. I know someone who would be willing to buy a set of the pistons, if you don't want them let me know. Thx Rock for all the help, let us know if you will decide to come out with that fuel management thingy.

damn yo if i was n/a i think i would go for these pistons. and liek boe said u can get into the 14's with all da mods he listed in the begining of this thread i think that will be fun with a n/a motor. i would love to feel the pull on it. i remember a freind of mine who built like a b18 or b22 motor for his honda and i believe he was running around or close to 300whp. man imagine 300whp all motor on a lancer. i think that will be hella lot of fun. since ive been boosted and will be i can only imagine how a beefed up lancer n/a motor. this is a great idea for those who's stayin n/a and want some more out of theere 4g94

Quote: In the end if you modify the headers/exhaust/cats/tb/intake man./intake itself/etc... you should expect the need for some tuning. While these mods show great results on a stock setup it wasn't until the piggy back and reflashes that full advantage could be had. Should RRM have stated that when selling those products? In the end i forsee no problems and i know ROCK has worked on contingencies just in case. If things do occure i can tell you that before another set is sold there will be warnings and or write-ups stating what to do. For now only one batch of pistons sold and only a few are out. These will be the start-up practice and if any issues arise RRM will be there to support the customers 100% as always.
This is going to be the last I speak of this, but since I had to leave the discussion lastnight then I want to finish it.

I have bolded another one of those statements that are being made that is simply not true of all modifications and you know what I am talking about Boe. Maybe for RRM products the piggy was just the thing to round out all the performance aspects of the NA bolt ons. But as we know throw some other companies stuff in there and the same does not hold true.

When the PB was first introduced it was hailed as being able to synergize all NA mods regardless of origin. Do we know this to still be true? I don't think it is the end users responsibility to find out the kinks and that was the "keep us posted" thing you said earlier I did not like.

Back to the pistons.
If you read this I guess you guys are correct. You never said you were going to do anything more than giving the guys what they asked for, the NA pistons. Now that deposits have been put down and the pistons have been shipped the issue arises that there may be an issue with running too lean. That is something I, If I had wanted in on the deal, would have liked to have known before hand.

Hopefully this is all a smoke screen and the pistons will work without the necessity of tuning. It's the timing of the issue that I am referring to.

That is all.

I should have enough money to get these things installed by the end of march, early april. If I am the first, so be it. The shop I am going to go to will do 3 runs before and after the pistons for $100 so I can't really say no to that. Right now, All I have in terms of performance is an RMR intake. I am also an auto so this should be intresting in any case to see how it turns out. Fastest N/A auto anyone?

just out of curiosity, when they have the engine apart, is there anything else I can have replaced that would normally take wear and tear on the engine? Since this is an excellent oppurtunity I figure I might as well replace anything that I can to extend the life of the engine since it already has 30,000 miles on it.

Also, now that I think about it, will it change the sound of the car having these pistons? I would think that the engine tone might be a bit deeper but I don't know.

I got a quick question. I was looking at the pistons, and piston B is the only one doing this so I was just wondering if It is ok or not. The part that goes inside the piston and looks like it is suppose to spin freely does not. on all the other pistons it can slide freely all the way through and spins when inside but this one will not spin at all even when I try with both hands. It also does not slide at all, push as hard as I can it barely moves. Just wondering if this is ok or if it is something I should be worried about.

while you have it all apart you might want to get your head p&p cant hurt and then you dont have to take it apart agian later if you are gonna do it.

one note on the itr. They tuned the **** out of those motors, but if i remember right you can or could buy a lot higher octane in japan to help things out

Doing a PNP is not something that would be inclusive of the piston install. That's some serious extra time to get the head work done, and if he's saving to get the pistons installed and won't have the money until April, then it'll be October before he's ready to do all that.

I think he's asking about belts and such. And that will depend on how they take the pistons out. If they go from underneath, then there's not a lot that they'll be able to do. If they take the whole motor out, then belt inspection is in order (and should be done by them anyway) and maybe some hoses. If you have other parts to install (IM, headers, DP - that kind of stuff) they shouldn't charge you any extra to replace the stock parts with aftermarket.

when i did my motor work i did it all at once. port/polish, intake manifold, etc. I found that it saved me big time later as i was only charged 350 for all the head work and intake manifold porting. If i had to buy the intake manifold later that would have set me back 360 by itself.

Its not needed though. Change the timing belt could help but it's not necessary with 30k most likely. In the end i know these will offer some good power with total compatibility to the stock ecu. The piggy back can still be used but it would need a new tune. Maybe once i get them in i can tune it and RRM can offer it as an upgrade/re-program.

If you are local or close to me and have high comp. pistons and the piggy pm me. I can put the wideband in and check things out.

Money isn't really an issue, its more about how much I can save not spending it on other stuff lol. I need to find a good shop around here to get everything done. I know one but I have a feeling its going to be an arm and a leg. So how long does p&p take to get done?
