I'am just wondering what the reflash actually do physically to heat up the cat more ? let the engine run faster or let it run longer before idling ? because I know if the cat is not properly heated you get more pollutants and shorter cat life due to clogging from the carbon.

I called my dealership today about the RPM hang after the recall. They said just come on in and they'll take care of it. And it should take about 30 minutes. After its taken care of I'll see what they did about it and if it got fixed at all and I'll post.

ok i went back, the guy asked exactly what it was doing, then said he was going to set the ECU back to "mitsu stock" like from when i first got it, so it would have to relearn the way I use the gas pedal. so he did it and i drove 40 miles back home and drove around all day from 5:00 to like 10:00 (not 5 hours straight though). But I love the way it is now. It shifts a little smoother too i think. but no RPM hang yet.

my dealer said the PCM reflash automatically sets it to 'mitsu stock' i've still got rpm hang. after cleaning the TB and EGR system it doesnt start to hang until 3500ish instead of 2900 but it still revs, sticks at 1300, then returns to idle.

well whatever he did, i'm satisfied, but we'll see how long it lasts. I'm thinking as soon as it adjusts to my way of driving again, it might start doing it again.

that's funny, when i brought mine in to the dealer they said there was no way to go back to the original ECU programming (ie. before the recall), cuz i specifically asked if they could do that. anyone else been able to go back to the original programming??

yeah, he told me it will be set to the way it was right out of the factory, so it will feel weird for a while cause it wont be adjusted to my driving. and thats also how it felt

Just to throw my name into the hat, I too am experiencing the RPM hang. Mine doesen't keep rising when I let off the gas, but it definitely does "hang" for about a second. It's definately not the same as when it idles high in cold weather.

My car is pretty much stock. The only "mod", if you could call it that, is a K&N panel filter. Also it's a manual.

On a good note though, after the reflash, it feels like there is a little more power. At least according to my butt dyno.

the only reason people are feeling a "slight power gain" is because the rpm are hanging higher when you shift so it's almost like power shifting (ie: not letting off the gas when clutching between gears). what i believe the mod does (not 100%) is bring the rpm up whilst keeping the fuel inputs the same, thus allowing the car to burn more of the fuel before it exhausts, thereby saving your pre-cat from getting bunged up with tons of extra fuel. someone correct me if i'm wrong on this

Just wanted to post with my experience on the recall.

I just bought an 02 OZ automatic a few days ago. I did a carfax and found out about the fan and PCM reflash recalls. Turned out my catalytic converter was bad. They replaced it (offered for free), and did the 2 recalls. Unfortunately they didn't replace my O2 sensor so I ordered one today.

So far I haven't noticed any rpm hangs. My gf was driving it today through a school zone and said it took a long time to shift, but I'm thinking it may just need a tranny update.

So all in all I got some free work done (btw i'm 84k miles) and seems to be working fine.

so what about 05s?

what if you have a piggy back already?

and headers, hrc etc etc? I'm thinking having the piggyback would solve any problems w/factory ecu?

that is a good question will the piggy back v1 or v2 solve the problem?
