Are you sure about that??

I was told that the gas light came on when you had one gallon left in the tank. That would mean you've burned 12.2 gallons of fuel making it 270/12.2 = 22.13mpg.

I've filled up my tank before, just as the light came on and it's taken around 12 gallons of fuel

I just finished up a tank... hit the "feed me" light at 315 Miles. 20 of these miles are highways, the rest- city streets. between 26-30 mpg city ain't bad. I did just have a tune-up too.

I get about 32-34 mpg on mine, that's highway and city. I don't really hammer on it either...well maybe alittle, but still getting good gas mileage.

nope.. at least in my car thats the way it happens. I'm positive that every time my light comes on, I've burned exactly 10 gallons of fuel. (3 gal remaining) Every single time I've ever filled up as soon as my gas light came on, I can only fit 10 gal in.. or 10.2 at the most.

Gas mileage is pretty poor, not sure how to go about improving it.

I signed up on here so I could troubleshoot and maintain my girlfriends Auto 03 Lancer OZ in the event something was wrong...well somethings wrong.

Her car has 67,000 miles on it. She's owned it about 10,000 of those miles. Regular oil changes and an air filter..thats what has been done maintainence wise.

Well thats obviously not enough, at best I've noticed her car has gotten approx 270 miles to a tank. She's told me her gas mileage was significantly better a few months ago and its really gone down. She does not beat on it at all and the highest revs it sees is 4k. She doesnt have a heavy foot.

I'm used to older cars and I'm not quite sure what to do to hers.

A few days ago I changed her spark plugs and it didnt seem to do anything noticable.

The plug wires..are attached to coil packs...so I'm assuming that those are going to be significantly more expensive to replace as opposed to regular plug wires.

I was thinking about changing her trans fluid. What else can be done?

270 miles to the tank is good..There aint nothin wrong and revs up to 4k rpm are gonna burn gas too.

There are alot of people who would kill to get 270 miles to the tank on here.

So 27mpg nothin wrong dont worry.

check these links:

also keep in mind that the numbers on a window sticker like for our cars are like 28/35, these are estimates by the EPA, so many variables change it...for instace, mods, age of car, mileage on car, tire pressure, octane of fuel, have a dragging brake pad, upkeep...etc.

I get 260 to a quarter tank. If I were to drive it down to "E" I'd probly get 280-300 ish The only think I can think of is check you tires, change your plugs to some good ones and your wires. (All of those I have done) Check your air intake also...

yeah i get 27 mpg using the A/C. I also have an intake, muffler, and Lightweight Pulley. Supposeably those mods help with gas mileage. But the older the car is, the worse the gas mileage gets, so I'd say for the amount of miles she gets per gallon with double the mileage than whats on my car, its doing pretty well. Dont worry about it.

Get an SAFC and some gauges and lean her out. I get 32-33 mpg consitantly. CAI, Header, Testpipe, Catback and I left the 190L fuel pump and adjustable regulator in there too from my failure back in the day.
