My Pride, My Lancer, My Problems

After a while of lurking, I'm finally making a big post. The pistons (10:1) are in and the car is running pretty strong with the exception of the ticking from the engine bay. Gas Mileage is 30MPG Highway and 25+ City Driving. I'm completely Untuned as of now, only power mods are Catback exhaust and DIY intake. I took off the mirage header/downpipe because I was tired of putting muffler mender on every 3 days so I went back to the stock header. I bought new rims with Kumho MX Tires and a Carbon Fiber hood for 80 (+ trade for a stock hood.) I also finally put the eyelids on that I had sitting in my closet for 6 months. Two 12" Kenwoods with a 320W Amp are in the trunk and a new KDLH910 headunit in the dash. The body of the car has 80,000 miles on it. When I accelerate or am daily driving, the dashboard rattles at a particuliar rpm, and although road noise isn't bad, the car itself makes a lot of noise in daily driving. It's really getting to me. The paint on my left rear door and front right fender is fubar thanks to my attempt to repaint where a woman opened a minivan door into my car and wear I found key scratches. But for what it's worth, the car was a graduation gift and it's mine. I love it and can't wait to go FI.

Note: I failed inspection because the bracket for my licensce plate light broke... and the only way I can see to fix it (I had it taped inside the bumper before would be to remove the rear bumper. Any tips?

I did a couple pulls as well as a video of the stock exhaust, and a video of the ticking from the engine bay. They'll be up accordlingly as I upload them to yousendit.com

I'm going to get the car repainted and get new bumpers (bodykit) as soon as I can work and save the money (front bumper cracked, rear fitment bad.)

Please post constructive criticism, comments, or suggestions to help with my problems.

Dude, I dunno WHAT that sound is, but it sounds HORRIBLE. I'd tear down the entire engine again and chest every part 1 by 1. But that's just me. Man, I hope you get it ironed out. I hate hearing about good people with bad Lancer problems.

I've seen the car in person so I know that it looks rough now but with some time, money and all that N1te said he is going to be doing with this car it will one day look very good. And right now his car still looks better than most. Keep up the good work man.

Sounds like something isn't tightened all the way. Have Jotun take a look at it when he gets back. I bet its something simple.

Hey you guys said it was the lifters! and Greggiv has 10.5:1 compression pistons, his engine sounds like a tractor and his car still runs okay. Any ideas Hobbles? and thanks Fox. And Fox, I've tightened every bolt I could in the engine bay, its something inside the engine.

I'm waiting for the files to download and then I will be able to compare the sound of my car to yours.

Quite possible, but I want to listen to it when it's not 1:30AM and I can actually turn my speakers up. If it was just lifters you'd think raising the oil pressure would silence the sound. I suppose it's still possible (and probably even), but iono.

But when you take the oil cap off the sound goes away.

In my car I tried bleeding lifter just like I was told by Aritchetic but that helped only for 30mins and it came back again. Like I said before the only thing that works is ValveMedic by Gunk but only for 5mins.

I take no responsibility if something goes wrong but here is what I did:
-disconnect the battery
-take off the wires and coils and vacume line
-take off the valve cover (6 screws same size as the one for battery)

hold on let me pull out a pic
