Question Grease in Wheel Wells

Ok, I have a question for you Lancer owners out there. I have a 2003 OZ and it looks like I have a grease coating in my wheel wells. Is that normal? And if not what could be a major factor in why it would be there? Could it be my shocks leaking? It is on all 4 wheel well and all over my springs.

It's most likely something you ran over on the road. The tires probably kicked it up onto the wheel well.

It's probably the undercoating the manufacturer sprays under the car. I've done some work under my car and have got some of that stuff on me; it's similar to grease.

Is it like black with a greasy consistency to it? If it is, I think that's tar from the road

I do not know it is not really greasy now, it has a lot of dirt mixed with it, i looked at the shocks, and can not tell if they are leaking, and the whole care underneath is covered in it. So you think it would be the undercoating? I live in Vegas, did not know that they undercoat their cars. thanks.

Did you have the car washed lately???? Some car washes spray greasy **** around the wheel wells to make it look clean. Looks like black magic. Or did you amorall your tires and have residue spray all over?

Did you lower your vehicle? Because if it is GREASE it could be from a broken CV boot. Try to take a look at your CV boot for any tears.

I have the same black greasy consistency stuff in my wheel wells - I doubt it's anything to worry about.

its comes from the factory. It slowly fades away.

I have it on my car as well. I believe it is factory undercoating. You can see it on the contorl arms the inside of the rims but, only a quarter of the rim and the bottoms of the control arms like it was sprayed from underneath when the car was on a lift.
