suscibed! i was talking about this swap with a friend and he said it's not possible. now i will do enything tha i can, to help. I'm finning for this to be complete.i wish people would stop asking why do this build. the same reason brain surgens smoke cigarettes! people do what they want, with or without a reason. GOOD LUCK MAN. im also doing research on a build im doing next year.
I wouldn't go for the Evo IX engine, the Mivec is going to be more hassle then it's worth to wire up. Any Evo 4-8 engine will do just fine. Do me a favor and PM me on how much it'll be to ship that Evo 6 head to 34758.
I don't understand why people are suggesting you use an Eclipse transmission because they (3G) only came in FWD, and I thought you wanted to go AWD.
The older AWD Eclipses (1G and 2G) had transmissions that sat on the opposite side of the engine bay, that wouldn't work for you.
A few 1G Outlanders (the ones that come with 4G64 engines) also came in AWD and manual. Might want to look for one of those.
Some JDM Lancer Cedias came in 4WD, might look for one of those for rear subframe parts, axles, driveshaft, etc. Those might be easier to fit under your car rather then Evo parts. I believe they were all auto/CVT though.

yeah that may be true but at the time when i contacted the guy in miami he said he only had a evo 9 engine and for 2k with low milage was a pretty damn good deal that I could not pass up to sad i never had the cash to buy it but yeah i honestly would preffer the evo 8 engine i had a complete jdm block such as I had the evo 4 bottom and I still have the evo 6 head which i am trying to sell.....but i honestly want the evo 8 or 9 motor because parts are much easier to find for it and such.

I could look into that with the cedia but that would mean i'll have to source japan for the cedia rear end that you are talking about and I honestly don't know where to start.

yeah i always knew it was gonna be a 4g64 eclipse i'll need the tranny from. But i was even wondering about coverting the evo tranny to FWD i've seen a performance shop do it here on a mirage/colt but they never got the chance to drive the car since hurricane ivan messed all that up.
Yes, this is a common practice. A lot of FWD DSMers run AWD trans converted to FWD because the gears are stronger on GSXs/EVOs. Also it means the axles will be closer to the same length to combat torque steer. You might go ahead and do this, so your future AWD conversion will have one less expensive step to take.

yeah that is exactly what is was thinking because to i figure maybe the only thing that will have to be done is to remove the transfer case and block it off with a plate correct?
I think it has to be professionally converted to work correctly. I think taking off the transfercase and blocking the hole isn't the way to go. Either you'll lose hp or be really hard on the fwd of the tranny. Probably break really quickly.
