compared to the $30-$35K Evo, I think the EVO is a bargain.....
If you can afford to pay for the performance of a new Z06 then great....more power to you, but dump a few grand into an EVO and you'll be able to hang with and if not beat the Z06.

A few grand? Stick with me here and listen to my argument with that. First of all the current best time in a C6 Z06 is 11.20@126mph on pump gas it has been shown that with under 6K in mods installed you have a 700rwhp car, but we won't even touch that side of the argument.
1. You go buy a one for 70K@5-7% interest the kicker is you still have resale value. You can go to a dealer with 10K down (good credit) and pick one up for 1K a month. The key here is resale the car will depriciate like it should.
2. Buy a EVO for 30K-35K like you said and you would have to put much more than a few grand in it to make it run 11.20's@126mph on pump gas. AMS stage IV or Buschur stage IV is 5K+ install add a clutch, turbo of some sort, alky, AEM most likely to make run those traps on pump. You're looking at much closer to 15K of cash or worse credit spent to just keep up with a stock Z06.
You don't have the topspeed, handling, or braking of a stock Z06 now either. So, that is more money you have to spend. You can do it cheaper with a EVO, but after it's all said in done it's much closer than you think and the Z06 is still stock......drop a cam, exhuast, tune, and juice and only the most highly modded EVO will beat it.
Z06= better platform and it should be it just so happens it's much much better.

I know I'll get flamed but I just don't understand what market the C6 Z06 is targeted towards. It is obviously a great car but most people don't spend 70K on a car for performance alone (at least not from the factory).
Think about the majority of people who buy 70K cars. Doctors, lawyers, CEOs, etc...... buy expensive cars as much for the name as they do the performance. I bet they would rather drive a porsche to the country club than they would a vette.
Of course in 5-6 years when used Z06s become more affordable, I'll be first in line.

My Evo driving friend with a passion for Porsches is almost as excited by the Z06 as I am, and I ONLY have eyes for Vettes.
Think about the loyalty difference between Subaru and Mitsu owners right now. If Subaru put out an Impreza that crushed the EVO in performance you'd have people who wouldn't switch over.
For Corvette owners it's that same sort of brand loyalty x10. The Z06 is targeted at the type of people who wouldn't even consider buying a Porsche instead, and there are lots of us out there.
If I could have any one vehicle in the world for free, I'd take a Vette of some sort. Perhaps a 67 vert instead of the current Z06, but it would definately be a Vette. Enzos and Bentleys and Lamborghinis wouldn't get more than a seconds' consideration.
^^^i think you missed the point a little. the dude was saying (correctly) that the wealthy people who can afford the Z06 are generally not the type who would want a chevrolet. the fact that YOU want a Z06 badly, but can't afford it, is the flip side of the exact same point.
My point was what Happy Madison? That a EVO cannot hang with a new Z06 for a "few grand in mods" that is it! Since when is 70K a wealth person's car? Toyota Sequoias are 50K loaded, a new Pacifica is is 37K, mabe a two income family, but we're talking millionaires here.
i sat inside a c6z at the la auto show. it felt right at home for me. for now i'd take an Evo over it just because 1) practicality of the evo 2) price.
the c6z if my dream car over almost every car except the cgt and f40 and f430. it is absolutely beautiful, and the interior is just perfect for me too. performance is downright insane for its price. in terms of dry road performance the Evo is not even in the same league. a Evo that can keep up/beat the c6z on the track (drag/road course) will not be a very good daily driver, whereas the c6z will still be very very comfortable for daily drive.
2 cars built for 2 purposes. some of us need to take a chill pill and just relax.

The assumption that wealthy people don't want Corvettes is pure bull-****. Just because YOU wouldn't buy a Z06 if you had the money doesn't mean you speak for me. (or others) The reason you can't understand why Z06s sell is because you are basing your argument on an INCORRECT assumption. You'll have to resolve this one yourself.

i dont think he's sayin that the c6z won't sell...i think he's just not sure what the target market for the c6z is. i think some people are too sensitive and get over defensive too easily. relax man. most of us here agree that the c6z is and always will be the supreme performance car on dry roads relative to any Evo up to date.

if you read what i wrote a tad more carefully, i said that the people who can afford a z06 generally don't want a chevy. most would buy bimmers, porsches, mercs, etc.
