How old are you, anyways? I'm 23, I have an X, I have a broken VIII, I have an STI, and I have a WRX; I don't really "prefer" one over the other, but I'm simply curious as to how you can flatly state that. How about all of the guys driving Camaros, or Mustangs; what are they? REALLY odd, since they're going for displacement instead of turbocharging? How do they fit into the neat little world you've designed?
I actually am 32, and have been in the automotive industry for 17 years working with lots of people. I know from experience. Also, straight from the horses mouth, I was told by a Mitsubishi Rep, that they refined the X to attract the older crowd. So I guess your happy little world isn't so happy is it??? I never said 100% of the younger crowd could care less about refinement, but I'd put a years salary that a higher percent of older individuals respect it a little more.

you may need to think about owning a different kind of car

Honestly I have been giving the x's a second look. I own a ix with full boltons big cams, catless exhaust, ported exhaust mani, injectors, etc. etc. Lately I am getting annoyed with the small boxy noisy jerky evo. Don't get me wrong I got this car for the driving experience but its sometimes obnoxious to dd. I would have to drive the x to get a better feel but I definately couldn't spend the money on the x to get it were I would like it to be s for now I am stuck. Honestly the ix's I think are more of a car to mod heavily than a x.

The thing about any car, when you mod them (especially to the 500+ level), you're going to get some rattles / noises. Can't fault your IX for that, it is after all a race car. Same with the X, you mod it, it's going to creak on you. They have almost 800whp X's now, I wouldn't say the IX is more heavy mod friendly... I mean there are some 1100whp VIIIs out there, but man, those aren't evos any more

You may want to de-mod a bit and a tune. The noise can be taken care of with resonators and sound-deadening filling.

X has def grown on me over the past couple years. Def feels solid to drive and would need mods to fit my tastes. A little pigish in stock form

But I honestly would never give up my VIII for it

Hell I wouldn't even if it was an even swap

1/2 the reason I went for a TBE was to make the X sound like a decently fast car. And the stock exhaust really is a choker, embarrassed to say I was beat by a SRT4 Neon that had only a CBE and a MBC, untuned and an SRT4 Caliber, bone stock. I couldn't even hear my car running at the green, so the noise is functional for at least one thing ;-)

I do admit, my new job has a stop-and-go sort of route to work, the DD is no fun at all anymore. I might as well be driving my 89 Camry with 330k and a slipping clutch again.

Do you have a tune? If not, that is the #1 thing you should get. The stock exhaust really isn't that bad, not for the stock turbo. It's definitely NOT noisy though.
