Evo X vs. Evo VIII and IX
The car is rare yes, the 9's are very comfortable IMO. However, I wound up going to an X later on and I was very happy with my choice. The car is bigger and heavier, but yet ... to me, it seemed to handle much better due to the sawc, etc.
I have a friend that still has his 8 and is not coming up on 105k or more miles with 330 whp mustang dyno that he DD's, reliability I don't know about on the X's (not saying it's bad.. i'm just not sure).
I remember getting the X and when driving it just thinking about how glad I was that I changed over just because the ride was sooo much more comfortable. The mileage was about the same for me, but if that's not something you care about then no big deal.
The X is also MUCH safer... the side crash testing went from 2 stars to 5. In 2011 the NHTSA upped their standards however, so I don't know now what it is.
Part of me wishes I still had mine. I sold it due to having issues with it after I left it with my brother to work on it and he got drunk and burned the clutch up and it just didn't feel the same even with a new one (though it was aftermarket).
For me, the X would outweigh the IX, though I really like both.
Honestly, I am waiting for the brand new one to come out that might get 35 or so mpg. That would be cool. We'll see how that develops. Right now i'm happy in my '12 WRX with 2 mods, a tune and 300 whp.

sorry not totally sure what you mean by 'needing to do the same with a X' or whether i've 'tried the x like that' or what my 'special field' is?
regardless, i must have said a dozen times in what arenas the x is better, rear suspension geometry being one of them.
and also like i've said a dozen times, for autox, 8/9s are still dominant. in classes permissible, bushings should be used to correct some of the weaknesses in the rear suspension geometry, and it does make a big difference for how the car behaves, and yes i have these 'fixes' in my own car. it's an area of the 9 that has been addressed long ago.
it's pretty much all been said now. unless there are new points to be made, this thread has pretty much served its purpose. what someone should really do is compile all the data and pros cons and arguments into one single post so people don't keep rehashing the same arguments

So for most people the racing is really irrevelant, the rest is differs on taste and valet.
There for majority of the opinion is based on taste and valet , which is really doesnt based on the given car strenght in racing or they experience in both platform. That is clear in this thread.
So the conlcusion can be really, what do you like to looking at a most, and live with it all day long as a daily driver? Because the racing times are so close, and differs driver to driver too, not just a platform only decide in this cases... Out side of the track for rest of the world 1 sec (which is hughe ) doesnt even matter really. You can not feel 1 sec or less lap time differences in specifyed racing cars on specifyed course, vs a base or modifyed DD car on the street. Doesnt matter which way that time advantige between these platform goes. We can agree on that right?
I try to mix some racing behind a scene infos here if you dont mind.
Those who builds stricly racing evos for racing purposes only, i dont even see them in this thread. Why? because that is a rule No1 in racing. Pick the platform you can afford to build and maintain it,and - or stick with a car you have build already, and keep making it better. To keep up or beat the newer platforms. Hence that is why you still see EVO 2 racing, not because that is a best Evo they ever made. Other wise you not racing. So for them it is not really important which car comes out "better" in the show room for multi purposes, hance daily driving and racing with a same car for a masses. Many of my racing friend has multiple CT9A chassis (to stick with this thread subject) sitting in the garage and engines- transmissions - ECU's - turbos etc on the shelfs. Why the hell they would throw all that out and start the whole new race project , for a half second faster or a better multi task show room car? Make no sense, neither financially and racing wise.
The first 3 years hands down the CT9A chassis was a better base car to build a stricly race car. Some of the simply reasons why , it was a welll supported , known , and cheaper platform. Today its a same for the CZ4A. There is very much information out there to build a car so as aftermarket support. And since its been 4 + years been out there , it is planty of cheap car to start with. That is why you see more and more CZ4A chassis being build latelly. Now it start making a better idea to change platform for the newer platform financially and racing wise too.

But here is the problem. VERY few people using the Evo for racing only, much more using them as a weekend warrior, and most of them using it as a show car or dd. ( which is basicaly never or only a few times see a track in they life time)

i'm completely fine with my car being a 'worse' car, whether or not that is true. i've done and continue to do things to improve it, and after some modification, it is really a blast for autocross, and that's all i need. anything else that needs to be said has already been said.
lol pretty much agree with what you said. that's why i try to specify discussions for a particular category, be it dd, track, rally, autox etc. people pick a platform and stick with and improve that one. the only reason racing matters for people, even if they don't race their own car, is for pride - to own the "fastest" car or best performance car for the buck, even if they don't race their own cars.

I just cant understand those who complaining about a better daily driving for an evo, the mean while most of time either they doesnt or rarly tracking they car. Lol
That is when you say hypocrites.

See i think that is where we have a miss understanding. I dont think your car is worst or lesser. What i think both cars are just as great as the other one for racing. The only thing is where i think the x evolved is the daily drive abilty, and live with it daily.

i just mean that it doesn't matter. it's the platform i chose and enjoy the most for my driving and weekend warrior duties
I'm on the road to buying a used EVO X, I choose the X over the 9 for three major reasons...
1. Its NEWER!
2. Its BIGGER!
3. Its looks seem more sophisticated compared to the evo 9
I always thought the 8-9 seemed abit immature in both is looks and style.
Now keep in mind these reasons have nothing to do with performance, I think we can ALL agree both versions of the same car are awesome machines and when you boil down to it, you really can’t go wrong.

You Sir, are an idiot

Well I may not have 4-7 years on this site to accord stickies and organize anything yet. What can I say? I have a full time job, don't have the best internet connection and have after work activities that consume my days. Eventually I will contribute my fair share to the site as the Mods see fit. Starting with how to install an Aux port into the Evo X MR that don't have it which I can't find on this site. In fact, I plan on answering many questions I can't seem to find on this site.
I stand unabashed and will adjure bigotry to those who stand to discredit my Evo or any Evo for that matter as it doesn't correspond to the "community" idea this site supposedly stands for. I demand respect as a car enthusiast and refuse to be undermined for my relatively new purchase of an Evo X.
Kyoo, I may have posted a fake time on the nurburgring but immediately followed up with an actual time accompanied by a website and video for reference. It clearly shows an X with similar power to a IX performing a better lap time. I wanted to share this with others on this thread since this thread is about debating. On another post you state the IX is a better track car. I also disagree but hey who cares.
My largest discomfort comes from 9 owners who still feel the need to bandy the smallest details to somehow reinforce their resentment with the X most likely due to their envy and insecurity of the dam car. The indisputable matter at hand on this thread is whether the X is an overall better purchase over its predecessor. In my own conceit (which is comical to even state since it is given that anything you write is your opinion unless you attribute it to another source; stating that something is your opinion seems obvious and juvenile in academic writing; but I will do it here since some might feel provoked) the X is the better overall vehicle hands down as I've expressed before. Not that I'm invalidating the IX prowess but, the X can accomplish similar results in a better fashion.

I've said it before I'll say it again:
I would NOT trade my almost 10yr old 140k+ mile VIII, straight up even, for a brand new off the lot X GSR or MR (Would never own the MR anyway) PERIOD.
Would I buy a X sure I may pick one up down the line but I can think of a few other cars I'd rather purchase.
I'm glad you are happy with your purchase as you should be, But please know there is no shred of envy, jealousy, or insecurity for your car here pal
the nasty tone in the debate between you and kyoo came 100% from you, IMO (
), and that's all I objected to. I look forward to your improvements on the X, maybe one day I'll be able to take advantage of them too.
carry on.
