Toyota GT 86 world debut !!
Really funny how you jump down everyone's throat for speculating about the car and then turn around and speculate how it will be so much better then a Miata with a hard top. You can't even admit that you will need to wait for a test drive? Seriously man, what I'm saying is not so irrational and stop pretending like I'm being so controversial
Anyways my other point was people will cross shop sporty cars at similar price point, regardless of how similar we find them.
People don't cross shop an Accord with a S2000 because an Accord is generally a family car, and a S2000 is a sports car.
WRX and BRZ are both pretending to be sports cars in a way, and sitting right there on Subaru lots, people will definitely notice the distinct performance advantage of a WRX right off the bat. Even though on paper the BRZ and V6 Mustang/Genesis are very different, just the fact that they are two door sporty coupes with similar price tags, they will be cross shopped. I think it's going to be a tough sell for Subaru.

And "I don't want an aftermarket hard top" is the lamest excuse not to consider a Miata I've never heard.
You've also completely glossed over the subjective aspects of the car but whatever, you've clearly made it known that you don't like the car so it's not hard to see why you can't see any reason to buy it over a Miata or S2000. The fact you've compared to two cars however, does raise the issue of how you can dismiss the subjective aspects while putting forth two cars that themselves should have been objectively compared, thereby deciding the "winner" but that's a concept I don't expect you to address or understand for that matter.
The WRX is not a sports car anymore than the Evo is. They are sporty cars, and their performance is obviously very good but they are not sports cars in the way many purists interpret such a term. Rather than have that argument, it is sufficient to say that someone who is seriously considering either car won't seriously consider the other. If you're buying the BRZ, you clearly are not concerned about utility given its coupe design and limited storage space. The WRX on the other hand has that utility, especially if you buy the hatchback version. What it lacks is the sporty element. An alternative comparison would be the MS3 to the Miata. do you honestly think people who are thinking about the Miata will cross-shop it with the MS3? They're vastly different cars. Hell, let's bring back the Accord comparison. You can get the Accord in a V6 format making 272 HP. That's obviously more than the 240 HP found in the S2000 but do you think an S2000 buyer will cross-shop with an Accord?
Pretty much the same car

I don't know if this link is already posted, but here's a good review on a test drive of the 86. http://www.7tune.com/driven-the-new-toyota-86/

.
Kind of funny how you go from broad sweeping speculative generalizations such as "all convertibles are less stiff then coupes" then three posts later "stop speculating you haven't driven the FRS".
By the way, thanks for making my own point (even if you are pretending that you are making it yourself) - I originally said several posts ago that you can't say the FRS is stiffer then a Miata, because you haven't driven the FRS yet. Geez

Ha ha I wonder....maybe this is 'bait & switch' maketing genius?
In 2 years they'll come out with a 300hp version, and all the 'early adopters' will lose $$
on the trade in??
Lets see a 200hp motor and 12+ compression?
that's not gonna run cheap gas...something not right...dunno

Mazda's new direct injection engine, the "Skyactiv-G" has 12:1 compression and accepts 87 octane gas.
Direct Injection has enabled higher compression on other engines, too.
Anyway, since this car has no turbo, I don't want it. I do think it is a great match for other people, however.
I love my Mitsubishi, but I don't have such bad feelings about Subaru cars.
I would have actually considered a WRX, but I wanted the TC:SST transmission and a timing chain engine.
I could write an entire thread stating why I passionately hate timing belts.
